I was a long-term blade shaver, using cartridges and more recently tried DE blades because I began having problems with some bad pores on my scalp, most always in the same places, that became irritated and would never heal because of frequent shaving. But I was not willing to quit being Bald By Choice. I tried practically every type of blade and shaver I could find but nothing made much of a difference. I had gotten the best shaves from DE blades but the nicks and irritation were the worst. It took quite a while to shave with it, but I got some relief from using a Braun 790cc (ONLY $200 on Amazon!) double head foil shaver, but it took awhile to get what looked (but did not feel) like a good shave.
I wore out two heads on the Braun and was about to get another replacement head (ONLY $35 ouch! on Amazon) when a fellow BBC friend suggested a Skull Shaver (ONLY $200 ouch! on Amazon!). I bought the Skull Shaver and found that it removed my scalp hair down to very short stubble (as good as I could get) in about 10-15 minutes, but I was not happy with the remaining stubble because I like a really slick scalp. So I continued to use the Braun to clean up the stubble after using the Skull Shaver and still ended up with a raspy but somewhat passable result.
Still not really happy, however, I looked around on youtube at shaving videos and saw a lot of barbers using double head foil shavers which were much less expensive than my Braun. The various models were priced at $13 to $300+ on Amazon. I mulled them over and watched more youtubes until I settled on the Andis Profoil Lithium Plus Titanium Foil Shaver 17200 ($66, a DEAL IMHO, on Amazon). I didn't get a replacement head for it ($15 on Amazon) because I was determined to send it back unless I was thrilled with it.
SO I still have it (3 days) and have used it every day since I got it and I am absolutely thrilled with it! I get a shave that is closer than I ever got with any 3 to 5 blade cartridge razors or with BE razors. I get it quickly, with less mess, ZERO bumps and lacerations, and can have a great shave in less than ten minutes. The shaving process is pleasant and the result so good that I have been shaving every day whether I plan to go out or not just because I love a slick head! I took the picture today and posted it as proof of the facts stated herein!
I paid for my shaver, got nothing for this review, and did it because I love this shaver and depend on what I always hope are honest reviews of products when I am shopping on Amazon. I have only two things to say that are less than favorable, and they tend to apply to any shaver other than sharp steel on skin: This Andis shaver works better on my round, hard head than it does on my face. And it is difficult to get a good straight line against a beard because of the design of the shaver heads. So I clean up around my beard with a double edge Wilkinson blade in a Parker DE razor. It only takes a minute and feels great. I don't know how this Andis will last, but it absolutely does what I was looking for. I don't have to run it long and it doesn't get even warm, so I don't expect it to fail quickly. It has a one year warranty. It claims 80 minutes of battery time, but I didn't check that.
So I recommend that you get one of these if you need an electric shaver and that in any event you get a tattoo. So far I am happier with them than I have been with any other shaver or body decoration I have ever tried!

=============
Original review:
This gives me the closest shave I've ever gotten from an electric razor. A few gotchas:
1. It doesn't pivot. That's okay because the small head, coupled with the offset foils lets you position the cutters precisely where you need them. It can reach places under my nose that the big-name razors can't.
2. The foils go right onto your face without a slippery metal piece like the big-names have. This means you absolutely can't put any pressure onto the shaver. Just let it glide over your face without putting any muscle into it.
3. It'll take a bit to get used to. The shave is much more aggressive than that of the big-names. You might want to shave every other day until you get used to it. For me, a cooling, after-shave balm was absolutely necessary for the first few days (was not necessary when I used a Braun).
4. It's not as rugged as the big-name razors. I don't think it's fragile or flimsy, but I don't think it would do as well as a Braun or Philips if you dropped it. At the very least I would expect to have to replace the foils if I dropped it.
5. It's loud. That doesn't matter to me, but if you're the type to shave at an ungodly early hour with housemates who sleep later than you do, it might be an issue.
6. It is absolutely not water resistant. Don't get it wet. Don't even think about rinsing it in the sink.
7. It comes with a plastic foil cover, a power cord, and a nifty base so you can keep it upright on your sink (but don't drop it into the sink!) There's no travel case and no way to lock the power switch. I'm not sure how I would pack this for travel.
Enjoy!
The trimmer is really good, I own a few of these. Cuts really clean and close, easily make clean passes. Cuts faster than the ones with rotary blades.
This is definitely the closest to a wet razor shave that I’ve ever gotten out of an electric. Super smooth and close. As some others have mentioned, a light touch and multiple passes are needed here to shave without scraping your skin too much.
Cheeks and neck are really easy to shave with this unit but it isn’t quite as good as a rotary shaver at the “nooks and crannies.” Also, for me the mustache area is tricky with this. I have to make probably 20 light passes with the top foil in order to “grind down” my pretty tough moustache stubble.
So it is not a super-fast shave like a lot of mid range electric shavers, but hard to get much closer. And much easier than wet shaving too.
My beard grows in pretty fast, I have to shave every day, as this shaver definite starts to pull and irritate the skin if I go more than a day. Haven’t tried aftershave or anything for this yet.
The dock is a nice feature too.
So overall, good unit and good value considering some of the consumer grade rotaries that go for twice or more the price.
2 MONTH UPDATE: I am trading this in. Its so loud, and it’s just not good for lower chin, bumps etc. and it’s still irritating my skin. Takes too long/too much care to shave with this without cutting/irritating. Went back to a more “consumer” grade face shaver.
