Excellent Winter/Rain Boot
5 out of 5 stars
Excellent Winter/Rain Boot
I am usually a Muck boot fan but decided to give Bogs a try. These are extremely comfortable boots. The moment I put them on I fell in love. A size 10 boot is generally slightly large for me; however, these fit closer to a tennis shoe. Pros: completely waterproof, comfortable, perfect fit, upper neoprene sleeve, odor fighting technology, height (not as high as a traditional rubber boot, mid calf fit). Cons: slightly heavier than I expected, price. Overall these are exceptional boots that will keep your feet warm and dry for years.

I only write reviews about products that make a solid impression on me, usually either very good, or very bad. These boots fall into the very good category. I live in a rural area of South Georgia. You have to go three or four miles in any direction just to reach a paved road. The roads, and especially the long driveway to access the property I am staying on, turn into a quagmire when it has been raining.

I have a dog that needs to be walked daily, and I often walk the quarter mile to the mail box and back once or twice a day. The mud was doing a number on my tennis shoes, and my feet were getting wet as well.

I read a lot of reviews before settling on these bogs, and I am delighted with my choice. These boots excel in a number of ways. First, the elastic material at the top of the boots flare out slightly and make it very easy to get my feet in and out. There is no wrestling to get my feet into, or out of the boots.

The boots are also very comfortable. I normally wear orthotic inserts inside of my shoes, but I have found I do not need them with these Bogs. There is a nicely contoured insole, and my feet are comfortable even on lengthy walks. Some people have reported that the boots don't seem to be the size they are advertised, but when I take the size twelve orthotic insoles out of my size 12 shoes and put them in the size 12 Bogs, they fit perfectly. Of course, when using orthotic insoles in my shoes, I remove the insoles that come with the shoes. There is no removable insole in the bogs, so this does decrease the height inside the boot, making the foot feel somewhat tight on top. But, as mentioned, the Bogs have a well contoured insole and my feet are quite comfortable without the orthotics.

The construction also appears excellent. There is some weight to these boots, as the rubber molded boots, and deep tread are made out of sturdy material. There is just the right amount of stiffness and flexibility. My dog tends to pull quite hard on his leash when I am walking him, and with the deep tread I have been able to keep my footing, and not slide around in the mud. These Bogs have also kept my feet completely dry. They definitely deserve a five star rating.

I'm a New Yorker who visits a friend on his organic farm in Massachusetts. For years I've worn various construction type work boots or sneakers, always making a mess and a hassle to take on and off as we constantly shuttle from the farm house to the fields and back again. I finally bought these boots after seeing what the other farmhands wear -- slip on mud boots with decent tread.

I'm a guy with small feet so fit is always a hassle, but these Bogs did the trick. I was just at the farm for a few days of chores and the boots were wonderful. I could easily kick them off while my hands were full and they fit very nicely and kept me warm. Your feet won't breath well since they're waterproof, so things get a bit damp, but it's worth it. I wish I had bought these years ago.

The build quality and tread are excellent. I wish they had built in handles like Muck boots, but those didn't fit well at all so the Bogs win out.

Size down if you're going to wear street socks. On size for thick, fuzzy, happy REI expedition weight wool socks. Warm, totally waterproof, don't seem to get smelly. Because of the thick insulation, this is a boot for <60 deg weather.

Look slightly less stupid than floral print wellies, but not much. People who know what's up will give you a respectful nod, and everyone with cold, wet feet in their "waterproof" hiking boots will be super jealous while you shovel out your car with a happy grin.

The hook on the back for taking them off doesn't get in the way and is super handy.

Because of the big lugs and lack of siping, they are terrible on ice. However, the oversized sole can accommodate most microspike like things. You can also try taking a razor to the lugs and siping them yourself - it's a little better (I did one first to try it out).

Great warm, dry, durable winter boot. A huge step up from wellies with liners. I was happy at the price I paid for them, but not sure I'd drop a c-bill.

Although only a few reviewers warned that these boots run small, you should listen to them. Unfortunately, I did not. I bought my usual size (13), but the boots were small length-wise; my toes did not fit in the boot comfortably (width was fine). I returned them to Amazon, which was easy. I bought the next size up, but they felt a bit big, not in length but in height. There was quite a bit of room between the top of my foot and the boot, and consequently, my feet moved around a lot when I walked. One way I remedied this was by putting shoe inserts in the boots (I took inserts that were pretty thick from an old pair of size 13 boots). Also, since I wear these boots primarily in the winter, I wear thick winter socks when I wear them. With the inserts and thick socks, the boots fit pretty surprisingly well. In addition, you could also tuck your pants into the boots (I think they are designed for this since the top opening of the boot is pretty big, although I don't think it looks particularly great) and the boots fit even better.

Overall, it's probably a good idea to try these boots on before you buy them since there are sizing issues with them. But if you would rather buy them on Amazon, I would buy a size larger than your usual size and try using inserts and wearing thick socks. As far as the boots themselves, I like them. They are lightweight, comfortable, and waterproof. And sliding them on and off is great.

Great boots however the neoprene has worn on the left boot from taking on and off. Not yet a few months old and they have a really unsightly hole in the side. Not great quality considering the price and you don't get the 'no quibble' returns that Bogs promise. Not a great experience of product or seller.
