Very nice, but not worth the huge price

Very nice, but not worth the huge price
I originally got a Kindle Paperwhite back in 2013, and decided that It was time to upgrade. I decided on the Kindle Oasis—mainly because it was somewhat larger than the Paperwhite and also because of the page-turning button feature. The adjustable lights, both front light and warm light features, were a good selling point, as well.I have now had my Oasis for a few weeks now, and here are my thoughts on it. First of all, it is a really nice reading device. It is a little smaller than I thought it would be. Still, it’s a good size for reading; the screen size is similar to that of a paperback novel. The case is thin and very lightweight, and very comfortable to hold in either hand. I like the fact that I can hold it in either hand with the page-turning buttons alongside my thumb, and that the screen will automatically adjust and rotate according to whichever hand you are holding it in. The adjustable lights are another wonderful feature. You can customize the front lights and warm lights to your particular vision comfort. It’s amazing how much the screen resembles the pages of a small book. The font size is adjustable as well, and that is a huge plus for those with near vision issues. Both of these make reading easier on the eyes than reading from a regular tablet. That being said, there are some cons to the Oasis as well. Firstly, the metal case itself is not attractive. If the case were plain, all metal with nothing else on it, it would be nice enough. But it has all these numbers/symbols/other information imprinted on the back center portion of the case, which I found ugly and unnecessary. It detracts a lot from the case, in my opinion, and I feel that the only reason all this is even imprinted on there is to entice people to purchase a case in order to cover it up. I definitely wanted to cover it up, but I did not want to put a leather or fabric case on it which would add to the weight and bulk of the Oasis. So in order to cover up all that unnecessary print without adding bulk or weight, I purchased a skin for my Oasis, one made by Mighty Skin. The particular skin style I chose (“Jasmine”) can be found here on Amazon, which is where I bought it. But Mighty Skins has a lot of other styles available as well. I love the way the case looks now, and all that ugly imprinting is covered up.Secondly, I don’t see how the battery can possibly last for weeks as Amazon states. Honestly, I haven’t very much time at all to read since purchasing my Oasis just last month. I have only read a few minutes every other day at most, I keep my device on Airplane mode all the time except when downloading a book, and I turn off the front lights and warm lights after I’m finished reading. Still, even with all that and with very little reading time, my battery is down to 40%. If I had spent any substantial time reading over these past few weeks, and if I had not kept the Airplane mode on, and if I used a higher intensity for my reading lights than what I currently use, I have no doubt that the battery would have run down fairly quickly, gauging by how much it has gone down already with such little use and with careful conservation of battery power.Thirdly, there is no color. Everything is in greys and whites, including the book covers. You would think that for this huge cost that at least the book covers would be in color. I have a Kindle Fire, and the book covers are beautifully colored. However, it is more difficult to read on the Kindle Fire (or any tablet for that matter) because of the glaring light and the glossiness of the tablet screen.I do think the Oasis a really nice device for reading. But I don’t think it is worth the huge price, and I am not quite sure why it costs so much more than the newest Kindle Paperwhite. I had debated between the Oasis and the Kindle Paperwhite with the sage-colored encasing. The Oasis (without ads) is more than $100 more expensive than the newest Paperwhite ($269 versus $129), and in my opinion there is simply not enough difference or enough additional features to justify that cost.
