Great watch for $100 but not for $200

Great watch for $100 but not for $200
I finally got it! Had been waiting for years for a price drop as Timex has made it difficult to find anything below $199. Saw it on Amazon for $100 and jumped on the opportunity. And I'm glad I did. Had I paid $200+, I would have been disappointed.Pros: The dial is gorgeous! Very well executed finish. And It's definitely not too small for my 7" wrist. It looks very classy. The aesthetics are original and definitely not like any other contemporary watch out there. Also, the presentation of the box is surprisingly pleasing.Cons: looks aside, this watch feels rather cheap. To the naked eye it may look like a million bucks, but if you are a watch collector like myself, you will know what I'm talking about. The crown is stiff and difficult to pull out to adjust the time. When adjusting the time, the minute or second hand might jump a few seconds when pushing the crown back in. I'm also sceptical as to how long the movement is going to last. I read some other reviews complaining about the strap; I actually think the leather strap looks and feels very nice and goes well with this watch. That being said, the strap is pretty stiff out of the box and will require breaking in.Verdict: definitely an instant classic. But most of that is because of the looks. Don't get me wrong though, it is a nice watch. But if you are looking to pay the retail price of $199, I would look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy

So beautiful and works as a unisex watch. My wrist is under 5.5” and the 34mm case looks great. I’ve included a pic of the case on a ruler and though it looks like it isn’t flush, that was just the camera angle. It’s exactly 34mm and the crown is about 1mm.

The sound of the ticking is quiet in that I can only hear it if I put it up to my ear. Maybe someone more sensitive to sounds might pick it up a few inches away though.

Though I think the acrylic is true to the original, I wish there were a more resilient option as it feels soft to me and I think it would scratch easily.

The stock band is nice quality and the smallest hole fits my small wrist (thank you, timex).

Winding it is a little hard, but even though my hands have had strength issues, I can manage it. Glad I managed to get this watch because as of this review it’s waiting list only on the timex site. Overall, highly recommend if you love mechanical watches.

5.0 out of 5 stars An affordable and quality classic
Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2020
This is the watch your father used to wear, or if you’re my age, an exact replica of the very first watch I ever wore, which just so happened to be a gift from my father. Timex really did it right. Simple, easy to read no frills mechanical. The dial is gorgeous and the art deco numerals are a perfect touch. There is something very satisfying in winding up your timepiece every night before you go to bed. I used to wear an Apple Watch for years, but with a laptop at work and a laptop at home and a phone in my pocket and a smart watch on my wrist I realized my technology usage and dependence was becoming unhealthy. I’ve cut down dramatically and this little watch is a key component of this change. It doesn’t text, make calls or even provide the date. It tells time, and accurately.
By the way, my wrist measures 7 1/2”.
