Which on that note, it isn’t as polished as other devices I’ve seen. But nothing deal breaking, just like the magnet that holds the stylus to the side isn’t that great, some of the UI can be a bit odd.
Other important things for me: writing fidelity has been great with the stylus that comes with it. I’m left handed and have not loved other tablets I’ve used for writing even with a powered stylus, this has been excellent. The file sharing was something I was a bit worried about, but that’s been fine. I’ve used google drive, Pocket for links, and the native app, no issues with any of those. Web browsing is okay, fine for text but it’s an eInk display so no surprise pictures are just okay, videos are not something I’ve bothered with. I’ve used the audio once with Bluetooth headphones, it was fine, but I haven’t used it enough like that to say anymore. I’ve been told it’s good for comics/manga as well, but I haven’t used it for that.
As I said, very niche but excellent if you want to use it in those ways. Overall I’m very happy I got it.
I’ve tried other products since, but kept looking at the Onyx Boox Note for a while. Flip-flopping on whether I should buy it or not. It’s pricey. There’s no doubt about it, and I was nervous about spending that much money on another gadget that would just go on a shelf. Last week, I finally broke down and bought the Note 2 Plus. I’m now kicking myself for waiting so long. It has everything I was hoping. Instant access to an App Store (without having to do a bunch of cyber stuff to get things up and running. An amazing paper-like feel when writing. For the most part, the interface is extremely intuitive (it took me about thirty minutes or so to figure out what most the icons stood for and how to navigate everything reasonably well). The device itself just feels good in my hands, as does the included stylus. I do wish the stylus had an eraser, or at least a button to switch between pen and eraser. Also, the magnet doesn’t really do a great job locking the stylus in place (especially if you’re used to an iPad Pro/Pencil combo). But stylus issues are minimal for me. I don’t want to carry an iPad Pro to scenes. Don’t want the blue glare. Hate writing on an iPad too. No, so far, this Onyx Boox Note 2 Plus is exactly what I was hoping for.
UPDATE:
I got the replacement device while still awaiting a refund on my previous device. This one is clearly used. It has notebooks from a previous owner and is still signed in to a OneNote account. Also, Amazon support can't help me with anything because it hasn't been marked 'delivered' yet. Absolutely ridiculous.
