From the manufacturer

Product Description
The compact Compass Pro stand from Twelve South can go anywhere you take your iPad. Engineered from steel and soft silicone, this beautiful stand holds iPad or iPad Pro in your choice of three different modes. 1) Hands-free as an easel, Compass displays your iPad in portrait or landscape orientation, which is great for watching movies, iPhoto slideshows, or paging through a cookbook. 2) Desktop or active mode is a more comfortable angle to use your iPad with an external keyboard for working. 3) Flip down the secondary leg and Compass becomes a handy workstation that angles your iPad to the perfect position for typing emails or sketching with Apple Pencil. Once you're done, fold up Compass, insert it into the including travel sleeve, toss it in your bag and go.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2020Color: SilverVerified PurchaseI wanted a stand for my new iPad for occasional use. 90% of the time, this would be while working in the kitchen. Other times, it would be something to prop the iPad onto as a video watching screen while working at a desk. I looked around Amazon a bunch and saw inexpensive, no-name brand, yet high rated stands that were perfect for this. I'm sure they are all great, but I had two minor gripes with them:
1. They were larger, and not the most... natural to stow away when not in use. I don't like clutter. This wouldn't be the hugest deal, but I wanted something aesthetically minimal when on my kitchen countertop and not in use, if possible.
2. They all had prominent branding that looked tacky to me, especially because they were unknown brands.
After *almost* buying one of those stands, I decided to spring for this one. I don't *think* there are other stands quite like it on the market, though it's possible I could have missed them.
I had heard of Twelve South before, but never owned their products. I have to say that I'm impressed. All the hinge mechanisms in this thing are SOLID. They feel smooth, sturdy and hold really well. While the stand is super compact (esp. when folded), it's much heavier than you may imagine. There is absolutely no wobble whatsoever when I use it with my 2020 11" iPad Pro, in portrait or landscape. I can imagine it holding up the larger model with no problems. I can tell that a lot of thought went into designing this thing. I appreciate all the strategically placed rubber to prevent sliding, or scratches on the device itself.
While I have not felt any restrictions thus far, it is worth noting that it's about as versatile (w.r.t. possible positions) as an Apple product would be. I recommend checking out the pictures of it in use on Twelve South's official site to get a good feel for it.
Oh also, it comes with a really nice carrying case. I don't have much use for it, but it seems nifty for putting it into bags without the metal scratching or banging up your other items.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2021Color: SilverVerified PurchaseReview is for compass pro (silver). This is the fastest review I have ever done. I’ve owned the stand for less than an hour (for full disclosure). But it’s a very simple device and you can quickly see that it is sturdy, well made and functions exactly as advertised. The little “arms” to hold your tablet do stand out as the most likely parts to fail over time. But they are not flimsy. I would describe them as sturdy plastic.everything else is metal and feels solid, with weight to it.
It might be a bit pricey for the function. It’s literally just a desktop/tabletop stand. A really really well made one, but still, just that. Not everyone needs this, or needs it often. I do. So I would say if you would use a stand daily or even more than once a week, it’s worth the price. If you only need a desk stand on rare occasions, I still think think this is a winner but you could save some cash by grabbing a cheap one, elsewhere.
Bonus points for this stand collapsing down to a very portable size (with a little case!). This is another thing that not everyone needs, but I do.
So... if you really need a desk/table stand for your iPad Pro, this is the one. Well made, strong, easy, portable. If you aren’t going to use it a lot, there are cheaper options. But you are still going to like this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2022Color: SilverVerified PurchaseThe only thing about it I don't like is the extended kickstand on the back wore out very quickly, and does not stay fully upright with my iPad 12.9 pro. I'd consider the fully extended kickstand on my product to be defective and could use a replacement. Because it won't stand up, it has limited me to one of the angles I'm supposed to have.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2024Color: SilverVerified PurchaseAt first, I thought this item was rather pricey, but now I understand why. It’s extremely well built and very high-quality. Rubber feet keep it from slipping in my iPad is so rocksolid steady on the stand. I’ve used the cheap plastic stands, and they are wobbly and crappy. I absolutely love this stand, and it comes with a very nice protective case to make it easy to bring it with you. It’s well worth the money, this thing will last forever. Best stand I’ve ever seen!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2022Color: SilverVerified PurchaseThis is a very nice addition to your tablet. It is compact, comes with a carry case, and unfolds into different configurations based on what you want to do. The packaging is very nice and would make a good gift-box. The feet are rubber as are all the "touch-points" between the stand and the tablet. No way this will scratch your device. I'm so impressed, I am looking at other products from 12 South.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2024Color: SilverVerified PurchaseI have a much older, and simpler, version of this product bought in an Apple Store, which I still use. This "Twelve South Compass Pro for iPad" I bought via Amazon slightly less than a year ago (June '23)
I have 2 iPad 11" Pros which I use constantly and interchangeably during the day. When I bought the second iPad I turned to Twelve South for a second tripod. They no longer sold apparently indestructible model I have so I bought this one, believing it would be as sturdy as the first.
The current product feels great: wonderful heft promising years of use. Alas: the quality of the stand does not justify the price or deliver on the promise. The rear leg of the triangle is extendable and, in theory, allows one a number of different angles from which to view the iPad. But the sliding mechanism in the rear leg is a low-quality plastic that quickly wears. Once it does, there is only one viewing angle available, and that is the one most likely to catch light cause glare. And mine wore about 3 months ago.
In addition to the designed-in fault of the shoddy extendable leg, there is also build quality: the tripod has two small fold-out legs in front, one on each of the front legs. These are designed to hold the iPad on the tripod. When the product was delivered one of the fold-outs did not fold quite flush with its leg when not in use, the other did but felt loose. These are very minor imperfections but this is an expensive product for what it is, there should be no faults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
Color: SilverVerified PurchaseGreat as part of my every day carry kit.
Just take it out of your bag when you go through airport security if you don’t want to get delayed explaining what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Très solide

Color: SilverVerified PurchaseI like this product, heavier than expected however, necessary and solid.
