Pokémon become huge with Dynamax & Gigantamax
Dynamaxing!
Dynamax is a phenomenon unique to specific locations in the Galar region, where Pokémon are able to take on gigantic appearances. Dynamax Pokémon become tremendously strong and their stats get a boost but they will return to normal after three turns.
Gigantamaxing!
Only certain species of Pokémon can Gigantamax—and even among such species, only rare specimens will be able to. Gigantamax Pokémon become bigger and it boosts the power of the Pokémon. It also allows each Gigantamax Pokémon to use a unique move known as a G-Max Move!

I have personally played Pokémon games, they are all the same really just new stories, abilities, and creatures. So if you liked the last Pokémon game or if the person you are buying this for did. They will like this one. Not a hard sell. Nintendo always makes a good game.
The multiplayer gimmick of fighting giant powered-up Pokemon in dens is both really fun and terrible. You can see a den on the list, select it, and then promptly be told that it's full or closed. Weirdly, this doesn't remove it from the list and there's few moments when it will refresh. So you could have a full list of dens and have none of them available.
Conversely, I've found that "unpopular" dens (an event Pokemon that outstays its welcome for example) will struggle to fill up. A 5-star den is a breeze with 4 competent players, but if you try to do it solo or with one other person, the NPCs are a complete gamble.
I had some fun playing it in the evening after I beat it, but eventually the fun tapered off. It's a shame, too, as this one should've been easy to complete the Dex for. Frustratingly, one of the Pokemon only spawns in a specific region with certain weather conditions. Could not get it to show up at all. Trading's a bit of a pain so sadly I fell off the game before I could round out the Dex,
I'll see if the upcoming DLC brings me back in. For the most part, this was enjoyable while it lasted but I don't find myself really wanting to replay it any time soon. I think that's pretty standard for Pokemon games anyway.
