- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2019Are these as good as the Campfire Andromeda, Shure SE846, or other flagship IEMs? Of course not, and you knew that.
But these sound great for the money and will kick Apple headphones right in the balanced armature.
Pros: its detail retrieval is enough for most people. Bass is sufficient for most music types. Overall I would rate it slightly neutral with slight emphasis on bass and treble. The fit inside the ear is good and comfortable. The cable is NOT microphonic. Uses MMCX connectors for the cable, so you can replace it if it gets worn out or damaged; a huge reason personally for me getting these as I have gone through $500 IEMs that I can no longer use because the cable broke or got worn out. Comes with a hard carry case and a good assortment of tips.
Cons: Treble can be ever so slightly sibilant... but it is not annoying nor frequent. It does sound a bit veiled compared to other IEMs, but this is me being very critical of it, as this sounds better than most IEMs in this price range.
Overall a really solid choice for anyone looking at a pair of IEMs around the $100 mark.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2019These are beautiful IEMs to look at, like all the higher end Fiio.
For 1 BA driver, sound it great, not fatiguing, highs are under control, mids are balanced, I would prefer more bass, but it is adequate I am not an audiophile, I'm sure they love the sound for all the right reasons.
They are comfortable, easy insertion, and they stay. I ride a motorcycle every day to work, these cancel all traffic, and my exhaust sound, and stay in place.

Let's GO! first of all, I will say this is my "best audio purchase I've ever made, for now". I currently have equipment like the mentioned Fiio FH5 which is one of the Fiios's flagship, the mighty Sennheiser HD600, Momentum 2.0 over ear, a Sony and Beyer headphones which models I do not remember.
Let's compare the FA1 vs my +250 hours FH5.
Comfort:
naaa, FA1 are quite superior in comfort, weight, seal, and isolation. The FA1 look and feel ike custom a IEM. The problem with the FH5 is the short nozzle, despite considering them quite comfortable, still.. FA1 is superior in every way.
Sound:
Mids & high: No fair here, I think the FA1 are better than FH5 in details retrieval {micro details}, clarity, vocals, separation, treble extension.
The FA1 has a balanced sound signature while the FH5 has a V-shaped or W-shaped kind of signature. This can qualify as "just own personal taste". Personally, I find the balanced sound of the FA1 way more satisfying to listen to.
About the vocals, happens that the vocals of the FH5 are clearly too forward and they can turn very fatiguing after a certain amount of listening, especially females vocals. In that regard, the FA1 vocals are less forward and they really sound very nice, totally non-fatiguing.
Bass: This is where I could say the FH5 might be better than the FA1, though I would say the bass between these two are bit different and it could suit to your specific preferences. For example, FH5 bass is punchier, more extended, and it goes deeper; while the FA1 bass is lighter but faster and tighter.
I ended up choosing bass preferences depending on which genres you listen to. To me, I would rather choose FA1 bass for Jazz, blues, classical, rock {classical rock rocks with these}. While, FH5 for Hip-hop, electronic music; the FA1 do not perform badly on these genres though.
Soundstage: FA1 is noticeably wider to me and has more depth, but I would say they have slightly less height compared to the FH5.
Sources: very source dependent too, especially with the low frequency. paired with my OPPO HA2 SE,
The bass sounds satisfying on any genre, to the point where i'm not missing the bass response of my FH5. The bass, can also be increased to good satisfying level via EQ.
Overall, I consider the FA1 to be a more engaging listening experience, more of an audiophile. The FH5 is not bad either, but now that I have these FA1, I will use FH5 just for work-out.
Also, another important thing. Change that default cable, it does not sound as good as the cable that came with the FH5 and less good than my 16 core silver plate cord.
To Fiio, my friends, start tunning from this point, building your foundation and future IEMS around this tunning, with some improvement here and there.
Pictures coming soon.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2022Their are many conflicting reviews of this product on Amazon and I'm going to explain how this earphone really is. How can you trust me? Few reasons:
1. I own a decent amount of IEM's(Moondrop Chu, Tripowin Lea, KZ ZS10 Pro, Moondrop Aria, Moondrop Kato, etc).
2. I do my research by analyzing Frequency Response graphs (what tell us how the IEM will sound)
Comfort: This IEM is by far the most comfortable and sound isolating I own. Comfort is subjective depending on your ears but if you can get a good fit with the right tips, it feels like a glove for your ears
Bass: Many reviews have stated that there is no bass on this IEM which is completely false. Their is bass but their is no lift in the bass meaning that there bass doesn't feel impactful. It sounds quite neatrul and boring for music.
Midrange. Lower midrange seems natural but didn't have the weight to really carry itself (probably because there's only one BA having to do everything) in songs. Upper midrange is present but when playing games with friends and they yelled into their mics it sometimes sounded quite shouty but while listening to music I didn't hear any shoutiness in the upper midrange.
Treble: This is the biggest issue I have with the Fiio FA1. It is sibilant, meaning that the sounds of S, T, F, and SH are overly emphasized. It isn't the most noticable thing while listening to music but when watching YouTube videos it is unbearable to listen with these.
Technical Performance: This is the most surprising thing about the Fiio FA1. Compared to the Moondrop Aria and the Tin T3 Plus (it's my wife's pair), I found that because of it's tuning, the sound stage is the same as the Aria and better than the Tin T3 Plus. In addition, I found the resolution to be better on the FA1 than the Aria and the T3 Plus and the imaging is superior than these two as well.
Overall, I think this is a good IEM for playing competitive FPS like Overwatch, Apex Legends, etc. If you are willing to EQ these earphones, I can imagine the will sound really good but if you don't want to don't buy these for music listening, only for FPS titles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ricerca auricolari: endgame.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new baseline!
Yes, baseline.. not bassline.
But if it was a bassline, I'd hear it in all its clarity with these. This is day 1 and they haven't burn-inated yet (#trogdor), but I'm already getting that feeling I got when I first tried the Klipsch S4 almost a decade ago (before one of my cats ate through the wire a month after purchase).
To temper those who really know their hifi gear, yes I'm effusive about these because I normally use stock earbuds that come with my phones. Those are just uncomfortable enough that they limit my listening sessions, which may be a good thing actually - I'll have to consider that. They are also harsh enough in the highs that I eq them muddy to save my hearing and emphasize more bass, which is fairly flabby and one-dimensional. But still enjoyable - we have to be grateful for what we have!
In comparison, these Fiio in-ears have plenty of life to them without ever feeling like I'm going to lose my hearing in just one part of the spectrum! Highs are crisp, if bordering on sizzly, but I've not played anything of utmost quality yet and the better the streaming quality, the less sizzly the music gets. That being said, I'm picking out instruments very easily and not losing them, and being able to hop focus to other instruments without havig to 'search', if you get my drift. Things are nice and dynamic giving the impression of up-frontness while being a little bass-shy, but not so much that you can't pick it out. I prefer not to be overwhelmed by low end - but when I do, I have my Marshalls that have a nice fat cushion of low-mids and lows to make anything seem like a bassy pillow. Good end-of-day phones whereas these are fantastic during the day, for me anyway.
Comfort is amazing - I don't feel them at all. The over ear cable is also surprisingly not obtrusive or annoying in the least. Could be my ear holes though, so your mileage may vary. Blocks out sounds just great - you won't want to go back to the real world lol. There's a roomy hard plastic case that will fit the monitors, the cleaning brush, and a frosty white ziplock bag with tons of replacement nubbins of varying size - chances are one of them will fit, but no guarantees, right? I've read in a review that a better-quality Fiio's foam buds are the perfect match to these in order to bring out more bass. May have to give that a try, but I'll wait a few weeks first to see how I feel.
For the record, I debuted these with a Japanese import mix of Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and Tarkus by ELP. In both cases, vocals were natural sounding and felt like they were real people blowing air at you instead of flat voice tracks. Drums were as clear as being next to them, I definitely got a more in-the-space vibe from the sound. And on the more dense and complicated passages, I was noticing overdubs and sources of sounds that had been indistinct or hidden completely previously. Again, I chalk this up to breaking out of my audio rut: many of you may already hear music this way all the time. Lucky you! Is there room for one more? ;)
Bottom line, there are lots of great devices that push the music you love and the ads you tolerate into your ears. Each will have its quirks at any price range and these happened to fit my budget and are a viable alternative to other, pricier in-ears that I wouldn't afford to take a chance on. Pleasantly surprised, but I researched these quite a bit before clicking that order button.
If I ever decide to spend on even higher quality audio way down the road, I'm glad my baseline reference has improved significantly! Can't wait to hear all my favourite music on these and fall in love all over again.
One last note: what's been said of bad/low quality audio is true; these little things will highlight how bad/low quality something really is. If it doesn't bug you, then party on. If it does, then welcome to High Maintenance Ville! Either way, enjoy these - they're definitely worth their price.

5.0 out of 5 stars guter Over-The-Ear-Kopfhörer/Ohrhörer
TOP

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb all-rounder
Had these a couple of weeks now and I'm extremely happy with them. 1st listen was awful, you need to get a good seal with the tips. These are the first ear/headphones Ive owned that make you completely forget you're wearing them. So comfortable. The sound isolation is extremely good, I never need alter the volume when on bus for example.
The sound. All new earphones need time for your brain to make sense of the frequency response. Especially if you're coming from another earphone with a different sound.
The sound is flat as a pancake. Kind of hd600 flat with a little added grit around 2-4 khz. I can see many wanting to warm the sound up slightly. I have with phone eq.
The separation is excellent, better than my previous top if the line Senns. The soundstage is one ample sized bubble, as opposed to being wider than tall. Voices sound superb. Bass is controlled, but the lowest frequencies can sometimes struggle, again, similar to hd600. But the sound has an eloquence you wouldn't expect at this price range.
Well done Fiio yet again. For the price these are amazing. Don't hesitate.
(Been a head-fier for ten years and owned many top end headphones)
