Simone Bodmer-Turner
California-born, Brooklyn-based Simone Bodmer-Turner creates pleasing ceramic sculptures and vessels using traditional methods, hand-building using coils and slump molds rather than a wheel, then slip casting these original forms. The artist draws on techniques gleaned during trips to Japan and Mexico – on the latter, she worked with women in Atzompa who have worked with and fired clay in outdoor wood kilns for generations. Expect pieces in neutral tones with sensual, organic silhouettes rooted in the natural world, which champion the irregularities and idiosyncrasies formed by the human hand.
