Great mouse despite the odd charging port.
5 out of 5 stars
Great mouse despite the odd charging port.
Pros:- Charge lasts a very long time. In my experience, going from a 100% charge to completely dead takes several months of daily use (~40hrs/week).- No replaceable batteries means I save a decent chunk of money each year. AA batteries are not cheap when you're burning through at least 2/month, in my case. It was like a small subscription fee for using the mouse. I hate subscription fees.- Performs at least as well as its wireless predecessor in regards to regular mouse functionality. Honestly, not much difference in this area.- Connectivity is far easier in my opinion. I work in a large office with 100s of Macbooks looking for Bluetooth devices to latch on to. Disconnecting a device with the intent to reconnect to a different device nearby was tricky. With this rechargeable mouse, just plug it directly into the new device like you would an IPhone and it connects to the hardwired device regardless of previous wireless connections. Huge time and frustration saver for me.Cons:- Placement of the charging port. It's under the mouse. Why? I have a feeling the design team was a bit too involved in functionality decisions for this mouse. I get that Apple likes their stuff to be aesthetically pleasing, but I'd be willing to bet any user testing feedback included the poor placement of this charging port. It literally makes the mouse unusable while charging. Fortunately, charging is a relatively quick process (~30 mins from 0% to 100%).Conclusion:Great mouse despite the odd placement of it's charging port. I have 2, 1 for the office and 1 for home. The one I bought for my home was referbished. Saved like $30 and is just like new, so I recommend going that route (find a highly rated seller) if you're trying to save money on top of the savings you accumulate from no longer replacing mouse batteries.

This mouse is the best mouse I have ever used, hands down. The touch functionality works flawlessly, and makes switching between OS X Spaces effortless and extremely convenient. Scrolling also smooth and implemented nicely. I prefer using the touch surface to scroll over using the "wheel" common on mouses for last couple decades. This mouse is a huge improvement in a tech space that definitely saw some stagnation with regards to innovation. It's going to be hard to beat this mouse outside of someone inventing a way to make air gestures work as well and remove the mouse form the picture altogether.

One of the main complaints about this mouse you will read, is that the charging port is on the bottom of the mouse therefore making it unusable while being charged. For anyone concerned about this, it is a complete non-issue. First off, the battery life is excellent. After over a month of fairly heavy, daily use, my mouse 's battery is at 69% as I type this. However, the most important feature in terms of the battery and charging is that this mouse has a quick charge feature. In just two minutes charging time, the mouse will have enough battery life to last 8 hours. That's less time then it takes to get up and go to the restroom, or to get a glass of water. To see your current battery life in OS X, click the bluetooth symbol on the menu bar, select your Mouse, and the current battery strength percentage will be displayed. I would much rather have the rechargeable battery than to have to by batteries for my mouse.

The tracking on a variety of surfaces works excellent. I currently use my mouse on a black wooden desktop with no mouse pad, and it glides smoothly and tracks smoothly as well. It also works nicely on my tan couch, on my pants legs, and a leather ottoman.

The "clicking" is positive and provides good feedback. Tapping on the surface instead of using a "full click" also works very well.

There are a number of settings you change for the mouse in the OS X Settings. For example, I have the touch surface set to Zoom In on whatever I am viewing if I double tap the right side of the touch surface, which is great when reading the news (or reviews). Zoom out by double tapping again.

The mouse comes packaged in typical apple fashion, in a nice compact box. The mouse comes with a brief getting started manual, a lighting charging cord, and two apple stickers.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

    Pros:
    Sleek and sexy Apple styling
Force Touchpad-like usage on top of the mouse
    Awesome battery life
Quick charge (less than 20 min)
    Easy to pair

    Cons:
    Price
Charging port on the bottom (not really that much of a con if you plan ahead)

Bottom line: comfortable even with big hands. Fast charge and long lasting li-ion battery. Force-like touchpad functions (feel like I am one-finger petting my mouse. Would have been ultra cool with the Apple logo lit up.

I have been a long time Windows user and I just got a MacBook Pro retina for my 40th from none other than my beautiful wife. The Force touchpad on the Macbook Pro is nice but I am the type who feels that a trackpad, no matter how technologically advance, will ever replace the feel and freedom a mouse has to offer. Furthermore, I have never used a Mac OS before let alone be familiar with the functionality of an Apple mouse (read two button mouse). I read the reviews and even though I was skeptical of the comfort (I am 6 foot and have good size hands), I went ahead and ordered the latest and greatest Magic Mouse 2 (you would think Apple would come up with a better name than"Magic"). Anyways, I also read a lot of people complaining about the location of the charging port underneath, but to be honest it doesn't take long (20 minutes?) to get a full charge which should last you at least two weeks (YMMV) or even a full month. And besides, you should just plan ahead and charge it when you go to sleep so that it is ready the next day say if the battery level drops below 20%. Either that or take a 30 min break (get up and walk around) while you let the mouse charge. There are many workarounds to this. I think the location of the charging port is mostly for aesthetic reasons. The mouse is very sleek and looks like miniature alien ship. Adding a charging port to any side would undoubtedly make it look un-Apple like. Now on to the actual comfort and feel of the mouse using my big hand. After a couple of hours of use I can confidently say there no hand cramps to speak of. The mouse itself should be gripped with just your thumb and fourth finger (the one closes to your pinky) leaving your index and middle finger to navigate the top of the mouse. If you're palming the entire mouse than you're gonna get cramps. The top surface of the mouse is very similar to the Force tough pad in that I can scroll up and down by just sliding just one or two fingers. Very cool. There are other features that are easily enabled (checked off) in the systems preferences. There is even a mini video for each gesture in the mouse settings. Again very cool. Overall it looks and feels good and the sleek design goes well with my Macbook pro. Easy to pair and like all Apple products it was a joy to open (nicely packaged). A bit pricey but so is everything with the Apple logo on it.
