6 Fall 2019 Fashion Week Trends You Can Shop Now
For the past couple of seasons, shoppers have started to question the timeline of Fashion Week. At a time when instant gratification is the norm, why show clothing on the runway that won't be available for six months? Some designers, like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, responded by adopting a "see now, buy now" strategy, where everything becomes immediately available for purchase literally right as the model steps off the catwalk.
But there's another way to cop the look you see all over social media and Fashion Week recaps: Pull out the overarching trends you can add to your wardrobe right now. It could be a color, a print, or even an accessory—the fall 2019 collections gave us plenty of ideas of pieces we can buy and wear all through the spring, like colorful tights and zebra-print everything (worn together or separately.) But brands like Marine Serre, Saks Potts, and most recently Christopher John Rogers have started to incorporate colorful stockings into their styling as an essential part of the look. At this point, animal prints are essentially a wardrobe neutral. Leopard coats are a cold-weather staple; last fall everyone was wearing snakeskin boots. Now you'll want to get reacquainted with zebra prints, seen on the runways of Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Khaite, Ulla Johnson, and 3.1 Phillip Lim in all forms: as dresses, as skirts, as boots.

There's finally a color that might replace millennial pink—at least, that's what we predict based on all the purple featured in fall 2019 collections. Models at Nanushka wore purple thigh-high boots, belted blazers, and coats; at Sies Marjan, they wore the color head-to-toe. A lighter, pastel shade is perfect for spring and feels just as cheery and lighthearted as the pink that's taken over the industry.

As far as most people are concerned, there are three types of skirts: mini, midi, or maxi. But ones that fall right above the ankle, a little too long to be considered "midi" but too short to qualify as a "maxi," are vastly underrated (and harder to find.) Luckily, designers like Ulla Johnson and Khaite are waking up to their versatility and featuring them more prominently in their fall 2019 collections. They're ideal for springtime transitional dressing too, because they give you enough coverage when the weather's not quite warm enough but still allow you to show off the sandals you've been waiting to wear.

Some of Fashion Week's most experimental of brands, like Vaquera to Opening Ceremony, embraced Mary Janes for fall 2019—a welcome and colorful throwback. Wear them with patterned tights, with not-quite-midi-not-quite-maxi skirts, or with any other fall 2019 trend.

From Proenza Schouler to Jonathan Simkhai, designers continued to embrace suiting on the fall 2019 runways. This time, though, the blazers were more relaxed, oversized, and loose-fitting than the tailored jackets we're used to seeing. And they're one of the easiest things to throw on and go, whether it's over jeans and a T-shirt or, if you size way up, as a dress with platform sneakers.
