Editorial Reviews

‘Heavy Lifting’ is the new studio album by Detroit’s punk rock pioneers, MC5.

Led by MC5 founding member Wayne Kramer and produced by the iconic Bob Ezrin, ‘Heavy Lifting’ signifies a momentous occasion – the release of new MC5 music, a staggering 53 years since their last album in 1971.

The music community recently mourned the loss of MC5 founding member Wayne Kramer and Dennis 'Machine Gun' Thompson, the last members of the original MC5 lineup, accompanied by messages of love from the world’s greatest rock stars.

MC5's enduring influence and cultural significance are solidified by their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2024.

‘Heavy Lifting’ features an all-star lineup of guest musicians including Slash, Tom Morello, William Duvall (Alice in Chains), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Tim McIlrath (Rise Against), and many more.

That being said, this is a very fun album. The songs are well written, with good lyrics, good melodies, great riffs, great vocals, and a very MC5 Detroit R&B rock n roll boogie woogie feel for you. This had my foot tapping and air guitar going start to finish. RIP Wayne and Machine Gun. Thank you for one last good one!

I don't like using stars for a rating I like 3/4 of the album how do you star rate something like that imo you cant. Two songs I really like are 5 star songs . You gotta like that old school guitar rock + roll
Still had a MC5 sound with only one member Wayne Kramer on all tracks + on 2 tracks it even has original drummer Dennis Thompson. A decent effort if you liked the MC5

Wayne Kramer ha hecho un buen disco rodeado de amigos y con la indispensable colaboración de Dennis Thompson.Que el álbum sirva como homenaje póstumo para ambos.
