I'm comparing this National Homecoming show to the 2018 version. This year's was more than twice the price for half the bands. In 2018 there were two stages so it was very little downtime between shows, this year it was 45 minutes of show followed by 30 minutes of standing around with nothing to do. The venue was small, no seating options, policies prohibit blankets, bags, cameras, water bottles, etc. So all there is left to do is stand around and bake in the sun.
The National was incredible both nights and some of the smaller acts (Carriers, Snail Mail, Arooj Aftab, Bartees Strange) were really great, but in terms of "big names"it was very hard to get excited about anyone in the lineup other than The National. In 2018 we got names like Feist, Future Islands, and Father John Misty. In 2023 (for a lot more money) we got Pavement, The Walkmen, and Patti Smith (I don't know anyone who cares about any of those acts.)
I'd like to see a better lineup or a lower price. A better venue or a lower price. The combo of high price, mid-lineup, and poor venue wasn't a good combo.
