About

Transcendent and sometimes wistful, the folk-pop of Weyes Blood (a.k.a. LA-based Natalie Mering) explores everything that drives us, divides us, and destroys us. This sounds like heavy stuff, but Mering is an effortless guide. Though burdened by doubt, she is also buoyed by hope -- her music unfurling with stunning nuance and ease.

"Bob Seger meets Enya" is how she once described her work. When you consider Weyes Blood's otherworldly expansiveness and hook-laden melodies, you realize that she isn't exaggerating.

Weyes Blood's breakout album on Sub Pop, Titanic Rising (named one of 2019's best by Pitchfork, NPR, The Guardian), was an observation of doom to come. Its follow up, And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow, finds her in the thick of it, searching for an escape hatch, away from algorithms and ideological chaos. After five albums and years of touring, Mering has a lot on her mind.

Mering grew up singing in gospel and madrigal choirs, before prodigiously picking up guitar at age 8. That -- mingled with her love of jazz, filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky, and scholar Joseph Campbell -- has shaped her music, which tells stories of both ancient and modern myths. Why, you ask? Because, she says, "Shared myths are part of our psychology and survival."

And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow is out November 18th, 2022.

Saw them as one of the opening acts for Beck's Summer Odessey tour. Sounded great. Am definitely seeking out their music after the show.

    Great Show!

by S Versus Knoxville on 9/17/23Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

I loved the show! The performance was great. The venue is locally beloved. The performers coordinated cool lighting effects and surprise videos during the show. It was special. The opening act however was very bad and a little drunk. He really seemed to be experiencing a large number of technical difficulties.

    A simply magical time!

by Rich on 9/4/23Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

Weyes Blood (pronounced Wise Blood), might just be my favorite live musician and one of my favorites period, so assume a degree of bias with this review. In the name of being as objective as I can I would say go and see her if you like calming music that sounds angelic in every way! Natalie is one of the most unique musicians I have ever heard, no one makes music anywhere close to how hers sounds and it is that uniqueness combined with her beautiful vocie and the healing quality of her music for one’s mind and soul that leads me to recommend her music to anyone and everyone I meet! Her song Andromeda transcends the pale t and makes you feel like your on a journey through outer space that only Space Oddity by David Bowie can compare with! I’ve seen her twice as of this writting & had the pleasure of meeting her after the second show. She is a very relaxed, kind, and down to earth person and is more than generous with her time to people she does have any obligation towards. The person you see on stage is who she was in person. I don’t mean to get too weird or paradoxical with my description, that is not how I feel nor my intent- I am just trying o talk up an all time favorite of a musician who is great at what she does and how her genuine caringness comes across. She is a very nice person, very genuine and that shines through in how she is both on stage and towards her fans in person after the show. Good people have a way of making themselves known and Weyes Blood is a Person of very kind hearted character. If you think you might like some angelic music that heals the soul, give her stuff a listen- especially “And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow”- a fantastic album by a fantastic act!

    Fantastic

    by K. M. on 8/30/23

Weyes Blood is pure vintage nostalgia. The show was great. Natalie’s live vocals sound 100% like the record, if not better. She also had good stage presence and kept the crowd hyped up and engaged. I’d love to see them again!

    Best Singer of the Decade

by Jessica Hope Martin on 8/27/23

Natalie has an outstanding vocal range! I’ve never heard anyone sound exactly the same as they do I’m studio, and now I can say that I have. She put on a phenomenal performance, was so talented. She would speak to the audience after every song. Most importantly she would tell us stories about her time growing up on a farm in Kentucky. I loved every second of my time at her show. Genuinely it felt otherworldly . I felt moved in a positive way while being in the audience. I felt bursts of happiness in me igniting as she performed. She’s a true force of energy.
