About

MorMor on Tour

MorMor's music is a thoughtful exploration of life expressed in soul-stirring vocals and ethereal production. Pitchfork called him "pop's new auteur," and he's been compared to Bon Iver and James Blake.

The Toronto-based indie-pop singer, songwriter and producer released his first EP, Live for Nothing, in 2015. His rise to popularity came when his single "Heaven's Only Wishful" from the album of the same name was featured in a guest playlist by Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener (co-hosts of the podcast "OTHERtone") on episode 58 of OVO Sound Radio. The song became a viral hit and has garnered more than 16 million YouTube views and over 14 million Spotify streams.

MorMor released the EP Some Place Else in 2019, featuring the hit single "Pass The Hours."  He was a SOCAN Songwriting Prize nominee in 2019 for the single "Whatever Comes to Mind."

In 2022 he released his first album, Semblance, on Don't Guess, Inc., his record label. In MorMor's official bio on Spotify, the album is described as "contemplative, jittery, wistful, gentle and generous." Get tickets to see MorMor when he comes to a city near you.

MorMor Live in Concert

Seth Nyquist, known as MorMor, was born in Toronto. He was raised by his adoptive mother, Mary Nyquist, a professor of English at the University of Toronto. He was a very musical child, singing in the school choir and playing trumpet in a band. The name MorMor is a reference to his grandmother and is the Swedish word for "grandmother."

He resisted formal musical training of any kind until he turned 18 and wanted to drop out of college after one semester. His mother agreed, but on one condition, he had to work on formal voice and piano training for a year instead of attending lectures.

Growing up, he was influenced by music from all genres, thanks to various family members. Nirvana, Wu-Tang Clan, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and hearty doses of classical and jazz to round it out. This same variety of tones and chord structure defines his music.
