Quality

Recently added a kettle Joe to my outdoor cooking arsenal.  Been able to do everything a Weber kettle can do, but with a lot more features and overall capability. I am a big 2 zone cooking guy and love the versatility u get by having split cooking grates where u can start over direct heat and finish over indirect or reverse sear with the same setup.  The removable sloroller also turns this kettle into a bonafide smoker with improved airflow and 22” of edge to edge indirect cooking.  I also really like the hinged lid, stainless charcoal ash basket and ceramic petals which help this cooker retain heat and act more like a Kamado style grill.  Here are a few cooks I've done thus far with many more to come!

More than a kettle

My first kettle grill and so far I'm loving it. 
Assembly instructions were clear and straight forward but some parts are cumbersome if doing it alone. A helping hand will speed up assembly though.
So far I've used the SloRoller for some beef ribs and have done several direct grilling cooks. All have turned out excellent.
The grill heats up fast and holds stable temps. 
I love the split level cooking ability and the fact that I can use my Big Joe deflectors for doing half indirect cooking. I've also discovered that my KJ Classic grates fit perfectly on top of the fire basket for a third level of extra high temp searing.
This grill seems to be very fuel efficient from what I expected. I use both lump and briquettes, depending on what I'm cooking and I've yet to need to add more fuel to finish a cook. I did a reverse sear the other night and went from 275 to 600 degrees in about 5 minutes with only a full chimney of lump charcoal.
This is a very fun but capable grill that can cook anything you throw on it.......and the best part is that most existing 22.5" accessories on the market will fit it. 
Add in the SloRoller, adjustable hinge, ceramic firebox panels that can be easily removed to lighten the weight of the grill for transportation and this makes for a kettle for the modern age.
As with any new product, I can see some areas for improvement but they in no way make me regret owning this grill. I love to tinker and try to improve things, so I added a felt gasket around the lip of the lid to see if it woulld improve anything. So while I had no problems maintaining 225-250 out of the box (BTW, this grill seems to love 240. it almost settles there on its own) adding the gasket did seem to make it even easier as I dont have to choke the vents down quite as much. It does not need the gasket to maintain stable temps though and thats why it still gets 5 stars.

Anyone looking for a feature rich kettle that stands out from the pack of old fashioned kettles will love this grill. 
Its also a great introduction to Kamado Joe as a sort of hybrid budget friendly grill. 
I can see this as being a gateway grill to the kamados and also a great sidekick for multitasking more than one grill.

The modern kettle has arrived

Grill is well made and has great features. The lid is hinged so it stays open and you don't have to find somewhere to put it when you take it off. The cart is also very well done and makes the grill simple to move around. I owuld definitely buy again.

Pricey, but worth it.

After a lot of research, I got this grill. I'm very happy that I did! 
It is excellent and works very well as both a grill and a smoker. Don't be confused - this is not comparable to the Japanese-style egg grills with full ceramic inlay in the lid - those are superior but 3 times the cost of this. This is an excellent grill that goes together easily.

Absolutely excellent grill!

I've done 3 cooks on this in the short time I've had it and I love both the grilling and smoking aspects of this.  I have had the Joe Jr. (which I also love) for a while now and needed something a bit bigger for larger gatherings.  Temp is very easy to control and maintain, very efficient with fuel.  Great addition to the family!

If you think you want a ceramic kettle grill, but can't stomach the price, this Kettle Joe is the grill for you! If you gotta have the best of the best, Kamado Joe has that too. The ceramic plates hold the heat in so it's a piece of cake to maintain a steady temperature, and once it's up to temp it'll stay there with very little fuel burn. It actually gets to temp faster than I expected it to. I like using lump charcoal, it seems to burn longer and just works great in this grill. Even after the charcoal runs out, the grill holds the heat in for a while. I'm very impressed with how evenly it cooks and how easy it is to maintain a set temperature. I like the swivel casters, it's very easy to store this grill in the garage and roll it out for use, they lock easily to hold it in place while you cook. Adding the Slo roller for smoking is a piece of cake, the lid hinge is easy to adjust and pin in to the higher setting.

Great value for an entry level kettle grill

I've had my Kettle Joe since June and I love it. Coming from a Weber kettle, this offers the heat retention and the Slo Roller technology in a kettle format. I've smoked tri tips, grill steaks and chicken, and even made Pakistani Nihari It's a great stepping stone towards a ceramic grill.

The box was missing 4 parts and another part was bent. Had to write to the manufacturer 2 different times to get said parts. The grill was not easy to put together. We still have not received all of the missing pieces

Disappointed

Received this as a Xmast gift from my kids and got to use it last night for this 1st time. I used Kingsford charcoal and firelight starters to start the fire. We grilled for 4 people and to my surprise when I cleaned it this morning the ash catch tray started melting away. I'm now really concerned about what we actually ate last night. 

THIS IS REALLY BAD!!!!

Sub par material

I have owned several Kamado Joes.  I had a classic 2 that I sold in order to purchase a Big Joe 2, which I currently own.  I also recently bought this Kettle Joe.  After 2 months, I have found this grill to be a big disappointment and think Kamado Joe really missed the mark with this one.  My ash tray warped after two months, but to be honest it was pretty worthless in the first place.  It is very difficult to remove any old ash/charcoal from this grill. The hinge idea with this grill is good, but not well executed.  I find it very difficult to get the dome to raise for smoking and then lower for grilling.  Don't know if I got a bad hinge or what, but mine is definitely terrible.  When I do get the dome to raise or lower, I often have to make further adjustments with the hinge to get the grill to seal up.  I also sometime have trouble getting the side tables to lock into place from time to time.  I have also found that the grill doesn't hold temperature for well for smoking.  I have tried smoking a ham and small pork roast with this grill.  In both cases, the temperature started to drop after 4-5 hours.  When I pulled the slo roller, I found that all of my charcoal had burned up despite the fact that I completely filled the grill with charcoal and ran it at around 250 degrees.  The grill also seems to have a lot of leaks and wastes a lot of charcoal.  Anytime I grill steaks, burgers, etc. I can fill the charcoal basket and grill anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half.  I then shut down the grill vents (both top and bottom) and it takes hours for the fire to burn out and the grill temperature to come down.  Usually when I open up the grill the next day, all of my charcoal has completely burned up.  I wasn't expecting this to be as good as a ceramic Joe by any means, but it should be better than it is.  Personally, I would recommend purchasing a Weber Kettle to anyone who is thinking about buying this grill. Sorry Kamado Joe.
