Why We Like the Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Mid Trail Running Shoe

When we head out to explore new trails, we lace up the Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Mid Trail Running Shoe to be prepared for it all. The lacing locks in our midfoot for stability as we race over scree and loose dirt. Our toes dance for joy in the spacious toebox that allows them to splay naturally for powerful transitions. The weather resistant uppers easily shed the occasional run in with water, while maintaining breathability. Our plan might have been for a short route, but the plush and energetic cushioning coaxes us onward all day long.

Favorite hiking boot so far

I love this boot. I have put in over 500+ miles on them in the last year doing some gnarly long distance trails in poor conditions. I agree with other commenters that these are a sponge, however, I find that they dry off quicker than other heavier boots. My only gripe is the fabric on the shoe is not resistant to wear/tear. Specifically near the top latches for the laces. Within the first 20 miles of wearing them, these metal pieces tore up the fabric on the boots. I wear these boots from mild winter conditions to the desert. They perform great in both conditions. Wish they were more durable, but they are just mid height trail runners.

Perfect fit but a sponge

I absolutely love the fit for my wide forefoot, narrow heels, and high instep. However, they only resisted water for a short period and are now a sponge, even in dewy grass.

Love them

I have had such a difficult time finding hiking boots that do not hurt my feet. Numbness, inflamed neuromas foot surgeries etc No break in period necessary. Have worn them in the winter and summer with comfort. One backpacking trip required that they stay wet for days due to hiking up canyons with high water. The lower portion does stay dry but if you submerge them in water to the laces you will have wet feet not a problem for me if I'm wearing Darn Tough brand socks. But now I am planning on going to Torres del Paine and really need a study waterproof boot. Hard to find zero drop, wide toe box, narrow heel in a hard core hiking boot. Spec never even list a drop measurement. Basically the only shoes I wear are Altras for many years now. Altras have allowed me to do the things I love to do!

Horrible laces

The shoe is fine however the laces are too long and always coming undone m. I bought 2 pairs, one for my daughter and she has tripped multiple times! For the price of the shoe, I expect better laces.

Great for snow shoeing, poor grip for any actual winter run

The toe box is super wide so even with a bunion I feel the fit is not great. I usually run in Bondi 8 wide. These are great for snow shoeing and they keep my feet dry. Actually running on snow or ice is a nightmare, no traction at all. Be careful, while walking to the start of my snow shoe race I fell really hard because there's no traction. I heard so much about lone peak... I would only use these inside of a cleat

Weatherproofing Broke

Bought these boots for snow hiking in Colorado and the waterproof seal broke on mile 2. Wet feet/socks the entire trip.

God sent

First off go up half a size if you wear thick socks with your boots or if you like them to be a little more roomy. The 9 fit perfect with semi thick socks but the 9.5 fit better since the inside has the waterproof lining the 1/2 size makes up for the space lost due to the liner. I'm usually an 9 in Altra sneakers. These are so comfy right out of the box!!! It's like walking with clouds on your feets!

A question

I've had mine for years, and love them. I read reviews here saying the 'all weather' feature was not working well on newer models, and spoke to your representative who said you were doing a redesign. Is that completed and how is it working? (Thanks for making the old ones work great in the many streams I've crossed in them.)

love them

I had a spinal cord injury at age 15 and still have some paralysis in hips and lower legs, feet. I love to hike, perhaps because I learned that there are many things one should never take for granted. These have been the best, most comfortable boots I've ever worn in the 40 years since my injury. They help with stability and balance and are so comfortable. They are going strong after a year. Thank you, Altra.
