Book Synopsis

"Whether you are an experimental baker or someone who likes to play it safe, you will find something to please you in this elegant book. Ebuehi's recipes always seem to work -- no easy feat in a baking book." - Bee Wilson, The Times

A Good Day to Bake is full of 70 sweet and savory baking recipes for any day of the week, led by flavor. Going through the ritual of bringing out the measuring scales, pouring out flour, whipping up the eggs, stirring the batter and impatiently slicing up warm cake is a beautiful thing that deserves to be enjoyed all year round no matter the day, season or occasion. This is a cookbook that embraces simplicity, mindfulness and the therapeutic comforts of baking. The Great British Baking Show's 2016 contestant Benjamina writes so warmly about cakes and her recipes speak to a natural, seasonal and down-to-earth way of baking. Chapters include Herbs & Tea, Stone Fruit & Berries, Vegetables, Best of Beige, Spice Cupboard, and Chocolate. Because every day is a good day to bake.

"Her confident, friendly demeanor and creative flavor combinations won me over." -Julie Chernoff, Better

"Of all the books I've pored over in 2022, "A Good Day to Bake" is the prettiest, an escape into a timeless English dream world of sticky toffee treacle tarts and split scones spread with clotted cream." -Jennifer Reese, The New York Times

"There may not be a better case for the stylishness of beige than Benjamina Ebuehi's latest cookbook, A Good Day to Bake. The book's clean minimalism and soft neutral hues set the stage for narrow slices of toasty malted brown butter pound cake and golden spirals of chamomile lemon dough. The 70 recipes prove that you don't need much more than sugar, flour, and butter to massively improve your afternoon tea or coffee break." -TASTE

"These are recipes for the everyday, when a craving strikes and an ordinary evening calls for a tart, some shortbread, or a pound cake that tastes way better than any non-occasion deserves." -Eater

"To borrow a bit from the GBBO judging criteria, Ebuehi is good with flavors. Her recipes are organized to emphasize this aspect of baking" -Eater

"A Good Day has a breezy, impulse-baking feel--you know, when you wake up on Sunday morning and think, "Scones?" (In those moments, rosemary and honey scones are the answer.)" -Alex Beggs, Bon Appetit
