Amazon.com
All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. The sharpener measures 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 by 4 inches, and is covered by a 1-year limited warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2025Works great, easy to use, compact and puts a nice edge on my kitchen knives. Bought another brand for $25 and immediately returned it. This runs quiet and smooth and the suction cups hold it in place
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025Easy to use, just plug in. Stayed in place on the counter top. Sharpened a variety of knives (from Shun to it was a dollar at Target) quickly and easily. Stayed put on my counter top without any effort on my part.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2023Sharpens quickly and well. This has two grinding wheels that put a 20 degree edge on steel knives. Most of my dull kitchen knives were sharp again with 3-4 passes through the fine wheel (right side). It took about a minute for each knife.
In my case, I had 20-30 knives that had never been sharpened in 30 years, Pro sharpening services charge about $5 per knife, or $1-2 per inch of blade. I didn't want to pay $150 to sharpen knives once. I have sharpening stones, but didn't want to take the time or mess of doing it myself. So with this, I paid less than $40 and was able to sharpen all my knives in 30-40 minutes. It's not a fine polished razor edge, but it's great for most kitchen knives. Win.
Works for steel knives - not ceramic. Works for 20 degree knives, which a common edge for inexpensive knives. Some high-quality knives are 15-17 degrees - They require a different sharpener.
Worked for all the knives I had from paring to large.
The coarse wheel will grind out nicks and chips or reprofile a blade to 20 degrees. My knives didn't need that.
The Fine wheel puts on a sharp edge, It's not super fine and leaves a significant burr. Use a finer stone or a honing rod to remove the burr.
I did not have any issues with burning or removing the temper from the metal.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2006I read all the reviews before buying and just had to write my review (my first ever of any product). I have worked in kitchens in the past and prepare meals regularly. I am a cajun cook and we chop crazy amounts of onions, celery, garlic, bell peppers and everything else from the garden. I also have a catfish pond, and I need a very sharp filet knife. So needless to say I have a drawer full of old filet and chef knives of varing quality and dullness. I have tried so many sharpening techniques and nothing I tried could restore the original sharpness without spending a ton of time an energy.
Well let me tell you, all the positive reviews are correct, this is a marvelous little gem and its the best $24 dollars I ever spent. Less than the new knife I was going to buy. I have knives of every metal imaginable and this little baby put an edge on them that is crazy sharp. I had to warn the wife about how sharp the knives were. Before if a burgular would come at me with one of my knives I would have died laughing, now I have to worry how they are stored in the drawer so not to accidently cut myself rummaging around in there.
Trust me, if you need your knives sharper than this baby gives you then you just are plain crazy. I believe I saw my onions cowering in the fridge! I had to cook a big seafood gumbo with extra onions and celery just to celebrate my new sharp knives.
This baby gets The Cajun seal of approval!!!
Have fun and be safe with your like new sharpness!
***Update***
It has now been almost three months since I first sharpened my knives and wrote this review. I use my knives everyday and they have held their edge ever since, this sharpener is just collecting dust now because I have had no need to resharpen them. I of course use a good piece of steel to keep a razor edge but otherwise I don't foresee having to resharpen for awhile yet.
***Update 2***
Its has been over 6 months now. My knives are sharp as razors with only two sharpening times. And they get heavy use, cleaning huge catfish from my pond and also chicken and all sorts of heavy kitchen use. Coupled with a nice piece of steel this sharpener is so good I just can't live without it. With so much usuage out of my knives and only having to sharpen 2 times in the last 6 months I would have to say it is the best 24$ I have ever spent!
***Update 3***
It has now been 2 years since purchasing this excellent knife sharpener. It is funny, I took this sharpener down from the top shelf to sharpen my 12" chef knife before cutting up a ton of meat to make sausage and I had to wipe all the dust off of it before using it, that is how infrequent I have to sharpen my knifes, and I use my knives for heavy duty use! Love this sharpener! Get yourself a decent piece of steel, a good chopping board and you got it made.
***Update 4*** It now has been 4 years! It is funny 2 years ago my wife bought me this exact sharpener by accident. I had it on my Amazon wish list...for review purposes and she didn't even realize I had one, that is how infrequently I have to sharpen my chef knives. I kept a hold of it to see how long my original one would last, well I am tired of waiting, I am bringing the unopened 2 year old sharpener to work today to sell it.
And I do a lot of cutting and I just took it down from the cabinet and had to dust if off again to see how well it worked before letting go with the unopened one. Knives didn't need it just wanted to 'top em off', all like new again.
*Note to commenter, all my knives in use are in their original cases, or original sleeve.
Next year will be my 5 year review. The person I am selling the unopened sharpener to is a hard core hunter and trapper. We will see how it handles. Stay tuned.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2025This works very well. It is easy to operate. My knives come out nice and sharp.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2013I am a Chef and I obviously use my knives more than most people. I also spend a LOT of money on buying quality knives ($75-150 each). The Presto 08800 EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener does what it says, it sharpens your knife, for that I give it 3 stars.
Some points to ponder
- Although it is easy to use, and sharpens quickly, it can be a little sensetive. You must not apply ANY pressure while sharpening. Doing so will bog the motor down and stop the stones in the middle of your knife.
- They are course grit stones.....They eat away material quickly!!! I would try it on an old knife first.
- It leaves a really bad bur. You may need to take it to a hand stone or strop to get it off if it bothers you.
- The guides work, but the stones have a different angle and may pick it up off the guide a little.
- Motor is not loud at all. Sharpening your knife is!!!
- Gets knives as dull as butter knives sharp sharp sharp!! I did it to a 30 year old Chicago Cutlery knife that looked like it had never been sharpened, and it came out with a good edge. The Chicago knife used a VERY hard steel. I could not even get an edge with my wet stone! Now with the electric sharpener putting a good edge on it, I can make it even better with my wet stones.
Like I said, I am a Chef and would not use them on my personal knives, i am sticking to wet stones for those, but I have taken the sharpener to work and sharpened the 14 knives we have in under 15 min! They stay sharp for a long time, and it is much faster than doing it by hand.
So......I would say no for your expensive set of knives, but yes for a set that you did not pay much for. The sharpener just does not have a fine enough stone fore my liking. The best part of this product is the price. I would say best sharpener for the price.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2025It's great to be able to go from a kitchen full of dull knives to having all of them sharpened within an hour.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2025The sharpener is very easy to use and results in very sharp knives. Had to make 10 passes the first time, but now it only takes 4-6 passes to re-sharpen. Use it every 2-3 months. My wife loves her sharp knives. We have a 6 knife set and it takes only 10 minutes total to sharpen all of them.

1.0 out of 5 stars This arrived with US voltage so cannot be used in the UK.
Apparently the time for returning this item has passed but this was bought as a Christmas present so opened only on Christmas Day.
We were horrified to discover a US plug on it, since there was no mention on the seller's page that it was for use in US only. so it is very dangerous. If we had decided to change the plug for a three pin pug it would have caused a fire.
This is totally unacceptable and VERY DANGEROUS and I want my money refunded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, quick and SHARP!
Easy to use, don't often require multiple passes to make a knife sharp, even my dull ones. Just one pass is often enough. I've used it several times, don't know how long it will perform like this, but so far it's doing an excellent job. My friend just but a high tech sharpener costing many times more than this and a lot more complicated to operate, he suggested I come over with my knives so he could sharpen them "properly", so I brought him the "dullest" of my sharp knives. He took a thin piece of paper and showed my how HIS knives could slice a piece of this paper, and when he tried the same thing with my knife it performed just as good as his, without him sharpening my knife, he was very impressed.
