Fox News war correspondent Trey Yingst shares his gripping, firsthand account of the events of October 7, 2023, and the ensuing war, offering riveting insight and fresh facts that clarify the scope and magnitude of this latest and most dramatic outbreak in one of the bloodiest, most nuanced, and longest-standing conflicts in modern history.

On the morning of October 7, 2023, the militant group known as Hamas launched a vicious attack on Israel in the most recent stage of the deeply complicated and decades-long Israel-Palestine conflict. The assault, which took place on Shabbat—the day of rest for the Jewish people—instantly became known among Israelis and the world as “Black Saturday.”

On October 7, Fox News Correspondent Trey Yingst was on the ground along the Gaza border and witnessed firsthand the devastation, shock, and deep sorrow that whirled through Israel. A seasoned journalist who has reported from some of the most dangerous hotspots around the world, including the frontlines in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Yingst was just one among many people plunged into the terrifying chaos of that horrific event. In this shocking and eye-opening chronicle, he pieces together the story of that tragic day and reveals how he risked his life searching for answers to essential questions in real time--who within Israel had been attacked; what happened to them; who, potentially, was next--while exploring the impact on both Israelis and Palestinians as a full-scale war ramps up and peace grows more elusive. “We have a responsibility now to account for and record these events—and tell the world the truth,” Yingst writes. “We cannot look away.”

Committed to reporting the whole truth, on both sides of the Israel-Gaza border, Yingst interviewed a range of exclusive contacts to incorporate multiple perspectives. From conversations with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and high-ranking soldiers, to interviews with Senior Hamas official Dr. Bassem Naim and Gazan journalist Nael Ghaboun, to heartbreaking accounts from civilians placed in the crosshairs of the attack and conflict that followed, Yingst takes us inside the newest phase of an old war in which thousands more people—men, women, and children—are suffering.

Combining candor, grit, and veracity, Yingst paints a vivid picture of horrors and violence, matched by acts of courage and humanity that cut through the darkness. A testament to unwavering resilience and tenacity, Black Saturday is the riveting chronicle of one journalist’s experience relentlessly pursuing the truth in the face of terror.

Black Saturday will include a 16-pages of full-color photographs.

A MOMENT BY MOMENT HEART POUNDING NARRATIVE

A MOMENT BY MOMENT HEART POUNDING NARRATIVE
This reporter's account reads like the war zone narrative you would expect from a veteran front line journalist. Moment to moment exceptional detail and narrative I have not seen in the accounts I have read in the international print coverage of this tragedy. The mayhem of the invasion is chilling. His cameramans attempts to turn his lenses toward unspeakable acts of inhumanity unfolding in the street where they stand. Gripping. Terrifying. A exceptional first person narration of the outbreak of this war.

Tremendous book. Trey Yingst takes us with him as he follows the horror of the 7th of October and the days and weeks that surround this tragedy. I, for one, needed a couple days to come down from the book which I couldn’t put down probably because we were in Gulf War 1.

I can attest to the excellent work of Yingst. Not a single word is wasted. We feel the impact of his day-to-day experiences as a correspondent which is unimaginable. His humanity is manifested for all the victims of that ignoble moment in history. But I must confess his bringing in of his father to the experiences makes the book extremely honest and extremely relevant.

Yingst’s descriptions brings us right into the center of the theater of war and we marvel at his rare luck to have survived many close calls. His decision to maintain his neutrality during this moment of history shows his mastery of the events we now call simply, October 7th. We mourn for all the innocents. We are left with a loss because Yingst has painted the reality with such fine clarity. By the first quarter of the book, I couldn’t set it aside even though my desk is full. It is an extraordinarily intense book and took me back to our own experiences in Mifrat Milhama, Gulf War One. I feel that because we had that experience, I can attest to the excellence of Yingst’s book.

The ability of Yingst to bring us into the nightmare, and his devotion to the truth, is without compare. When he writes of the atrocities of October 7th, his work is especially good since he is honest about what happened but leaves it to us to ponder the matter. He does it just right.

There is no exaggeration anywhere in the book which means he has created an excellent history as much as to recount his experiences.

His compassion for truth and for all the people involved in the events of October 7th are strikingly honest. I was running alongside Yingst from the very beginning of the book. I was familiar with many of the places he mentions and had a hard time dealing with the reality since I knew the quiet of many of those places and the sweet people, who dwelt there and had so much hope for Israel to become the quiet world the same as the lives of the people who lived in the shadow of the tragedy. It is shocking, this story, it is difficult when you know who lived there. For many it was a sweet life, and a life filled with hope. I saw these people, some of them, at least on a long drive south once, a drive my husband wanted me to experience so I would know the length and breadth of Israel. They had such an exuberant attitude. I remember being ashamed since I am the eternal pessimist, and they were so light and delightful. A master historian and writer has now created a classical living history to be treasured.

Yingst is a master and this is a master work.

Trey has brought us into a reality of what is currently happening some where else in this world. Informed, intuitive, deep dive into the harsh life of other people. Trey Yingst is more that just a journalist imbedded and immersed in Israel and surrounding countries. He writes with such an intensity and with so much of his heart a great story that is more than just a story. It is the heart and mind of people suffering, people succeeding and people that brought by forces they did nothing to and the same people rising above those darkness. WOW!!

I've followed Trey Yingst on Fox News for many years. He's a great reporter and very knowledgeable about world events. His book about Black Friday covers both sides of this war; the initial massacre and the response by Israel. Trey crosses the border and reports from both sides. I learned a lot about people, places and decisions made on that fateful day. He worked tirelessly covering the events that took place in unbiased reporting. He reported what he saw and what he knew. It's a good read. I learned a lot and you will too.

  • Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024
I recently finished "Black Saturday" by Trey Yingst, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts. This book is a deeply personal, unfiltered account of the tragic events of October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a devastating attack on Israel. Yingst, who was on the ground at the time, provides a firsthand look at the terror and sorrow that followed, bringing the reader into the heart of the chaos. It’s fast-paced and well-written, but also profoundly disturbing.

This is not an easy book to read. It challenges you in ways that leave you somber and changed. However, it’s essential for anyone wanting to grasp the truth of what happened that day and the larger implications for the ongoing conflict. Yingst highlights the evil behind the attacks and reminds us why it's crucial to reject the false narratives from those who seek to diminish the gravity of the events.

While I recommend this book, it’s not for the faint of heart. Some parts are incredibly difficult to get through. The realities Yingst documents are painful, but for those who stand with Israel—or even those who may not yet understand the full weight of the situation—this book should be required reading. It cuts through misinformation and underscores the importance of standing against such evil.

"Black Saturday" is a clarion call to face the truth, and I hope more people find the time to read it.

I was not able to put this book down. I had watched the writer every night on Fox News. Trey was very balanced in his reporting. The TV reports did not show the risks he was taking which he outlined in his book. There needs to be a special bravery award for war correspondents.

Mr. Yingst provides an insight of the ongoing struggle of good vs evil and providing a light into what is happening within Israel and Gaza.
This book is insightful, giving an unbiased view of the struggles he faced while entrenched in the Middle East. It is informative, interesting and disturbing. He tells us of the successes and failures of both sides of this conflict. From his reporting, it is obvious that peace is a just a word in this region of the world. A word that will never be realized in our lifetime.
Thank you for the insight you have provided.
