    So the device itself is a regular Google Nest Mini speaker. Pretty standard stuff and this review really doesn’t focus on that.The thing to be aware of is that this seller will ship whatever random device (in your chosen color) they happen to have. Basically, you don’t know which international version you may get. My particular device arrived in a box with Japanese writing on it. I could get by with French, German, or Spanish, but Japanese is a bit of a stretch for my limited language skills. Fortunately, unlike some other reviewers, my instruction manual was printed in English.Once I got the speaker out of the box and plugged it in I was greeted with some words in…you guessed it…Japanese. Maybe it was greeting me. Maybe it was cursing my ancestors. Not really sure since I DON’T SPEAK JAPANESE!The good news is that the Google Home app on my iPhone readily recognized that I had a new Google Nest Mini speaker plugged in and began the setup process, walking me through the steps and updating the device’s firmware. Once this was done my device began to speak English in my chosen Google Assistant voice (British Racing Green). From that point on there were no issues and it was just like any other Google Nest Mini speaker purchased from a reputable supplier such as Best Buy or Target.In all it wasn’t that big of a deal and if you just ignore everything and dive straight into the setup process with the Google Home app it won’t take any longer to get your device ready than had it actually arrived set to English in the first place. However, for lack of transparency on this issue I’ve deducted two stars from the overall rating. Just keep in mind that the diminished rating in no way is a reflection of the device itself, which thankfully did a great job reconfiguring itself to my locality despite the fact that it was originally intended for another market.Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto!

      We were a little taken aback by the fact that the device turned on speaking Japanese, however once paired with our home it automatically made the adjustment and switched to English and works great. You'll know its going to boot up speaking a different language based on the box it comes in, ours was in a Japanese language box, so that should have been our first clue but again it was super easy to set up and get it speaking in English. Works just like our other nest minis, so we're happy.

      I've had 3 of the 1st Generation Google Nest Mini Speakers, and had no issues at all with them, until one spent quite some time in a humid environment and stopped working. I couldn't get a new 1st Gen, so I got this one. It was easy to set up the first time and hook up to my existing Google Home. It worked fine the first day or so. Then, a few days later, following a power outage, it said it needed to be hooked up to the Google Home app. I couldn't get this to work without doing a factory reset. and it took days to have time to find the instructions. I got it hooked up and it worked for another day or two. It had been unplugged, so I thought that was the issue. After doing another factory reset and hooking it up again, we were very careful to avoid power outages, but it again stopped working soon after an unknown number of days (hadn't used it for some time). Did the factory reset, and now it spoke Japanese until we got it hooked up. As it was past the 30 day window, we couldn't return it. Have reset once or twice since then, hoping to get it to work, but it never stays more than a day or two. I love our other two, or I'd already be replacing all with Amazon Echo Speakers. As it is, we're replacing this with one, and will do the same should the others fail.

      It's a great device to have around the house especially as a beginning piece to your smart home / space, right out of the box even without the start up guide setup is a breeze because the device practically sets itself up for you, almost so fast you could swear it was autonomous because the wifi/bluetooth simultaneous connection and permission acceptance happen quickly right behind each other, the size is surprisingly moderate so it's big enough
      to notice when you do see it but small enough to where it'll blend into the background of your vision like your peripheral without making you want to take a look so it's not an eyesore, the build is very solid so you can tell it's made of quilty materials, and while others are trying to sell these for upward of a hundred dollars these are considerably very affordable being that these speakers are the cheaper out of two offers on Amazon, speaker/ mic UI work pretty well, but of course you have to train the voice assistant & set the voice reaction sensitivity to where you'll need it, my only nit pick is for my speakers is I can't pair them together to play music. Don't get me wrong they will both definitely play music, but they will also default to only one speaker being functional as speaking to/interacting with, the other speaker will no longer respond so I just leave them separately paired to get full functionality out of both. Outside of those points I would say if you've been feeling hesitant to buy one or a couple of these speakers don't just get them.

      We talk in German and Spanish to the mini nest and it might have difficulties understanding because of that. A lot of the times it answers in the wrong language back explaining that it did but understand. I would like to cast YouTube (just audio without video) and that does but work.
