Great Pressure Cooker With One Possible Issue

- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2022I was actually in the market for a new rice cooker. But when I searched for one, lots of multi cookers came up. So then I thought maybe I’d try one and see if they’re worthy of the hype. First I wanted to make sure that rice would be properly cooked in this since that was what started the shopping. I tried cooking rice first by using the pressure cooker method for brown rice. Came out perfect! Then I tried cooking brown rice using the actual brown rice function. Came out perfect! The next thing I tried was lentils. Perfectly cooked in 16 minutes. My last test was I threw solid frozen chicken breasts in with one cup of water. perfectly cooked in 12 minutes! I’m sold on this thing.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2020This multi cooker is great! I put her to the test of pressure cooked chili made in 20 minutes and then getting my family to tell me if they could tell the difference between this and my regular chili and the answer was a resounding 'No'! Pulled pork, chicken casserole, elk stew, all done to perfection with the slow cook option. I had reservations about buying this thing as the pressure cook option was a tad scary at first but this cooker has a securely locking lid and and easy to read panel and it is just great! The only, very slight, thing that I would mention is that the steam/pressure release knob could be a little more sturdy but it works just fine now so I'm good with it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2023I bought this pressure cooker a few month back but haven't written a review. So here is the review.
I've heard a lot about pressure cookers but hadn't bought one since about 8 months ago. A big reason is because they look intimidating. The only time I've seen a pressure cooker in use was the old type on the stove type. But the new ones are safer as long as one doesn't do anything carless and follow the safety instructions.
I decided the get this Zavor over the more popular one because of the high review from America's Test Kitchen (was runner up as best multi-cooker one year) and that the control panel on this cooker looks less overwhelming than the more popular brand.
I haven't cooked that much yet with this mult-cooker. I've used both as a pressure cooker and slow cooker. I'm made brown rice with the automatic brown rice setting and compared to all the rice cookers I've used before, I think this makes the best, pretty much perfect brown rice. I've also made beef stew pressure cooked and the result was very good.
As a slow cooker, I've used this to slow cook a chicken, a duck, spaghetti sauce. What I've found is the slow cooking isn't as hot as regular slow cookers. There are low and high settings. With a regular cooker, I'd usually just slow cook on low til food is ready depending on the time needed. With this, in order to get the right temperature, after starting on low, I need to the switch to high for a while to get the temperature up to my liking. The cooker slow cooks at 190F in low and 212F in high setting. However, keep in mind that the cooker only heats from the bottom heating element instead of the bottom and sides with regular slow cookers.
As for the controls on the panel. For the most part, they are intuitive with the exception of the start/stop button. The start/stop button is one button. I found myself several times pressing the middle of the button and accidently stopping my setting when I wanted to start. I found that I need to carefully press the half top or bottom that corresponds to the function. It's a bit awkward to use until you press incorrectly a few times and realize this.
There is possible issue with this cooker. The issue is if anything drips on heating element while hot, it doesn't come off. I've very careful to not drip things in when removing the inner pot but as you can see from my picture, the heating element is already showing signs of heated drips. I've tried washing off without luck as seems the grooves of heating element prevent this. Hopefully, in time this won't alter the multi-cooker's cooking performance.
Here is what I like and dislike of the Zavor multi-cooker:
Likes:
------
- not overwhelming control panel
- stainless steel inner pot
- preset brown rice setting makes perfect brown rice
Dislikes:
---------
- drips on heating element can't be cleaned off
- slow cooker mode not as hot as regular cookers
- start/button awkward to use
I give the Zavor LUX Multi-Cooker, 6 Quart 4 out of 5 stars.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024Easy to use and clean. Great kitchen appliance!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2022Simmer is another form of slow cooking and yet simmer does not call for a lid but slow cooking does. Yes you can use a glass lid on both if you find one that makes a decent seal. The only reason I think the manufacturer wants you to use the regular lid on slow cooking is for safety reasons. Several reviewers replied to my post that is no big deal to use the regular lid. Yes it is, as you have to clean the lid and the silicon seal ever time you use it. that’s why instant pot sells glass lids. Zavor needs to do the same.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2021I used it for a year and then I tried to use it one day and nothing! Absolutely nothing happened. The lid tightened correctly and the panel didn't light up and nothing happened when I tried to turn it on. It was too expensive to only last a year and then have it stop so suddenly. I bought it in March 2020. Here it is march 2021 and I have to buy a whole other multi cooker for more!!! Big bummer. Don't buy this one, too expensive to waste your money for only one year .
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2020I never thought I would get on the electric pressure cooker train… But man am I glad I did! I use this thing all the time. It’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. This one is recommended by America’s test kitchen. It’s my first one so I can’t compare it to any other electric pressure cooker but this one works great. I can cook dried beans from start to finish with the depressurization and everything in less than an hour. I love it because you set it and forget it. The inner bowl is very easy to keep clean. I have not had an issue with it in anyway. I love it!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2023Love my 6 qt. electric pressure cooker, but wanted a smaller size/footprint for traveling in RV. This one is just right and does all the things my big cooker does. I do wish it had come with a glass lid for saute operation. Hopefully I may find one at thrift store that fits.
