IS SEAWEED WAKAME GOOD FOR YOU?

Seaweed wakame has so many health benefits. Seaweed is actually one of the best sources of iodine available that can help regulate an underactive thyroid. Plus, it has a ton of vitamins, minerals, fiber.

It’s a good source of fiber and protein. It has iron in it and vitamins A, B, C and E.

Wakame is usually used in salads or as miso soup. This seaweed recipe is healthy and low-carb. It has less than 50 calories per serving.

Wakame Miso Soup

Procedure

  1. In Miso-shiru Nabe, bring the dashi to a simmer over medium-heat.
  2. Add the tofu. Cover with lid, and bring it back to simmer. Turn the heat down to low.
  3. By using a ladle and whisk, dissolve the miso in the broth gently.
  4. Add the wakame, and turn off the heat. Serve into individual bowls.

  • 4 oz (400 g) soft or medium-firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 3 1/2 to 4 tablespoons miso
  • 1 cup (240 ml) wakame seaweed

I thought this would fit in well with my recent commitment to healthy eating. It does not. This item has added sugar and fat, clocking in at 37g carbs, 8g of fat, and 230 calories per serving. To top things off, there are 2 warning labels on the bag warning consumption of this seaweed may expose you to heavy metals which are known to cause cancer and birth defects. I cannot recommend and am removing this from my subscribe and save list.

    I saw seaweed salad at the grocery store at the sushi bar. It was really expensive for a few bites. So I figured I’d learn to make it myself. I purchased the seaweed in hopes that I could re-create the tasty delicacy at home.
    I found a few recipes online and followed them exactly. Now since the seaweed is not cut into strips, it’s just basically broken up into small bits, the seaweed salad taste is exactly the same. It just didn’t look the same. I found that the seaweed hydrated just fine. It has a nice salty taste. Tasted fresh. It also did not take long to rehydrate. But I did leave it in the refrigerator overnight. It also stays crisp to the bite. I can’t wait to try it in a hot and sour soup and other dishes. I’m going to experiment mixing it with some rice And adding it to some meat dishes. It should be fun. A little goes a long way. And you get two bags with this order. So I should have seaweed in the cabinet for quite some time.
