Onguma Camp Kala

In November 2022, Onguma launched Camp Kala, a new ultra-exclusive lodge experience situated right next to a very busy waterhole in the 34,000 ha Onguma Nature Reserve in Namibia.
This exclusive lodge was designed by Nick Plewman architects and the interior design was executed by Fox Browne Creative. This creative combination guarantees a special and exclusive space, style and experience.

Elevated on wooden decks, with panoramic views over one of Onguma’s most beautiful and prolific waterholes is the new Onguma Camp Kala. With its conical, mud plastered central tower resembling a termite mound and the whole camp elevated on wooden stilts, it blends in with its surroundings and immediately calms the soul. The Impeccable and discreet butler service is designed to pamper guests and make you feel welcome, appreciated and at home.

It doesn’t get much more exclusive than this. Camp Kala consists of only four guest Suites linked by raised walkways. Although the lodge is perfect for exclusive use for 8 to 12 guests, the 4 suites can also be booked individually. Spacious and private, the open-plan suites have sumptuous twin or king-sized beds with a normal air-conditioning unit or, if you decide to sleep with open doors, a state-of-the-art air-cooling system cooling only the bed area. The comfortable seating area is equipped with a fully stocked personal bar. The beautiful bathroom with bespoke double vanities, full-size bathtub and generous shower has full views over the busy water hole just meters away.

Camp Kala is centred around a busy waterhole with game viewing from numerous vantage points to take it all in – be it the comfortable lounge, the cool and secluded hide, the intimate cocktail bar or the beautiful deck, which is sunny by day and warmed by a fire pit at night. The dining area has an open chef’s kitchen and all-day pantry to ensure everyone feels right at home. For guests who want to be more active there is a fully equipped gym, whilst those who want to relax, can while away the hours in comfort in the ground-level photographic hide, enjoy a massage in the spa room or practice yoga on the yoga deck.

“Wonderfully peaceful”
This place was so wonderful!! The treetop houses where very cute and every morning you woke up to the sunrise, looking out over the waterhole and bush, with all the birds singing. Magical! Then you would go and have a delicious breakfast where the chef Erasmus would cook you pancakes or eggs and bacon. Or both 🙂 The staff was very kind and helpful. We had a flat tire, which they fixed for us. Really really nice, because the nearest repair shop was very far away.  We saw lots of wildlife and almost no bugs.
Great place and we will definitely return next time we go to Namibia!

“A magical place to stay”
This lodge is just outside etosha national park. There are different camps within onguma, but the tree top was wonderful. With just four tents we had individual attention from the manager of the camp. The tents were built on stilts overlooking a water hole and you could leave the from of the tent open at night to watch the stars or the wildlife as we lay in bed.
The chef produced marvellous food at each meal and nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff.
It can serve as a base for exploring etosha , but we spent one morning of our stay just watching a succession of varied wildlife come to the water hole. We could not suggest any way in which this camp could be improved.
