Rosewood London

An instant classic, grand and sleek

What it is

London’s new standard-bearer for cosmopolitan luxury.

What it isn't

A historic throwback, despite its Edwardian bones.

What we think

You’re forgiven if, upon driving past the wrought iron gates into the entrance courtyard of the Rosewood London—its Belle Epoque facade towering above you, a tweed-uniformed valet helping you out of your taxi—you expect a museum of old-school British hospitality. But what you get instead is a thoroughly modern and yet still very English hotel. Portions of the early 1900s building are protected landmarks—including the astonishing seven story Pavonazzo marble staircase, reputedly insured for over $40 million—but the look is eclectically contemporary. Take the lobby, with its black-and-white striped marble floor, birdcages, and glass vitrines filled with art books and curiosities. It’s a residential sensibility (the interior design is by Tony Chi, of Park Hyatt fame) that extends to the 306 rooms and suites, which have large round tables for working and dining, fresh-cut flowers and minibars stocked with fresh produce and local beers. Downstairs, the Holborn Dining Room serves locally sourced, British brasserie classics; Scarfes Bar has the feel of a posh gentleman’s club with live jazz and inventive cocktails; and the Mirror Room offers a glittering afternoon tea and wear-your-best dinners. There’s also a subterranean spa with bamboo walls, dry-heat saunas, and an amethyst crystal steam room.

You're here because

You want a regally English experience—with a Cool Brittania energy.
