Prague, Czech Republic
Mandarin Oriental Prague
Religious Experience
What it is
Tucked in a 14th century monastery, with 99 cozy rooms and a spa and pool within a Renaissance-era chapel.
What it isn't
Pious. There’s a buzzing cocktail bar here, plus a covered terrace and topnotch Asian fusion restaurant.
What we think
The monks who lived here once upon a time would be truly floored by what their former address has become: a showstopping ode to luxury, in every inch. Many rooms have the charmingly asymmetrical sloped ceilings and handsome parquet floors of their medieval years, but plenty of modern day perks: like underfloor heating in the bathroom and a calming color palette of blues and neutrals. Instagram influencers and people that want to be will love the Premier Castle View Room, where baroque-inspired soaring vaulted ceilings and rounded windows peep out on 9th century Prague Castle.
You're here because
You like to experience local flavors as much as you can when you travel, and spa treatments in the former chapel include a scrub down with linden poultices (made with the national tree of the Czech Republic and scented with chamomile oil).
The Moment
The concept of private dining is taken up a notch here, thanks to the setting—a subterranean wine cellar with walls that date to the middle ages, and even an actual well, set safely beneath a glass floor. With each sip, you feel a little more like you’ve reached nirvana. Who can go back to real life after this?
