Worth the Wait

I have wanted a Titan Kettle for years and finally bought one! It is a wonderful pot/kettle for solo and 2-person trips. It is used for hot beverages, freeze dried meals and treating water. It replaces a very well used Open Country 5-cup Percolator (used without the insert). I greatly appreciate the decrease in weight and bulk of the Titan while being able to fit a Kovea Spider, 100 g canister and Ocelot wind screen inside.

The Titan Kettle is a long standing icon. Just one little suggestion to make it perfect... add liquid measure marks for convenience. Thanks Tim Wrigley

NOT AS GOOD AS IT'S PREDECESSOR .

Originally made in JAPAN like the Titan cup ,however production was moved to Thailand some years ago probably due to a cheaper labour force , I have both variants and the slightly smaller Japanese ones are better. crafted IMHO despite still retailing at double the price of many similar products . What has always baffled me is why the cup never came with a Titanium lid , it has taken me years to find one that actually fits ,now I can pack ultra light for those minimalistic outdoor brews .

Basic, Light, and Functional but could be smaller for 1 person

This is a great basic pot, with no frills that make it light and still functional. The handles get hot when cooking, so you either need to use a makeshift hot pad, or else shut off the stove if, for example, you finished boiling water and then simply wait 10 seconds for the handles to cool, and the handles will be cool enough to grasp. I only need to cook for myself, so I wish MSR made a smaller pot. I only need no more than 1.5 cups at a time, so this pot is a little bigger and bulkier than I like. It's perfect for two people!

Under Engineered, but otherwise fantastic pot

I was tired of carrying the windburner stove on long hunting and hiking trips in the mountains, so I was looking to put together a good pack stove system. I bought the Titan Kettle because it was the right size to fit a fuel canister, igniter (or small Bic lighter), cleaning cloth, fuel canister base, and the Pocket Rocket stove. Everything fit and I dumped the cleaning cloth and bought the Toaks cover for their pot. It gave me an excellent cleaning cloth and also acted as a pot holder. It made the perfect backpack stove system. But I immediately noticed some deficiencies in the design of the kettle. First is there are no graduations on the side of the pot to tell you how much water there is in the pot. Most of time, I use freeze dried foods, such as Mountain House, so I boil up some water and add it to the food, only to find I boiled to little or too much. Not an issue in a lot of places where water is abundant, but I live in the high desert, with limited water. I taped hash marks in the side to add measurements to the kettle. The only other issue I've found is no one thought to put strainer holes in the lid. Sometimes I cook using the pot. If I want to drain the pot, I run the risk of dumping food on the ground. Since I have what I carry on my back, not good. So I drilled holes in the rim of the lid and solved the problem. The only other accessory I bought for the stove system is the Snow Peak HotLips silicone edge protectors so I don't burn my lips to too hot a coffee in the field. This is a great container, but the two issues I described are almost standard on everybody else's pots of the same size.

Great! But handles need some attention

Love it! The only thing I found myself wishing for after a use or two is for the handles to be a little more stable. When the pot is full (probably too full) pinching the handles feels insecure as you’re trying to control a pound of water by basically holding a coat hanger. Spreading the two handles further apart so that they don’t write meet or have more of a curve so that your holding surface is wider would fix the issue. For me, I am going to devise a spacer so that the grippablle surface is a bit bigger.

The little pot that could

Great solution for gram counting water heating. Fits a canister of fuel inside but needs something in there to prevent rattling while hiking. So stoked the lid stays attached but comes off easily. 🙌
