Monoprice has been known to make some good quality products and sell them for a fraction of the costs the big OEM's do. In fact that's how the company began back in the early 2000's and they continue that M.O. today.
This 8 outlet Surge Strip was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something that had rotating outlets so that I can plug bulky adapters without them getting in each others way. I wanted a power strip that had a light indicator when power was on, and I wanted lots of surge protection because I had planned to use this in the garage with my power tools.
What's a joule, and how many do I need?
A joule rating indicates how much energy the surge protector can absorb before it fails. The higher the number, the greater the protection provided. Keys to determining the amount of protection needed include the type and value of the equipment to be protected. Obviously the more expensive the equipment, the more protection you should get. Inexpensive components like lamps and alarm clocks don't really need protection, but things like TV's, audio/video and home theater components do. If you do think you need protection, I'd start a minimum of 600 joules. If you're using it for sensitive electronics, I'd double that to 1200 joules. When you move up to bigger things like power tools, computers, copiers, printers, etc. you'll want to go up to 1800 joules. And for that home theater or entertainment system, you should ensure they're safe with at least 2000+ joules of protection.
The area where you live is also a factor. If you live in an area that is prone to surges and spikes, go for higher joule rated surge protection.
Having said all that, this surge strip is rated at 2160 joules, a little more than what I need it for, but hey, in the world of surge protection, you can never have too much! Just keep in mind that the more protection you get, the more it will cost. It the end, it's most cost effective to get only what you need.
The power strip itself does exactly what it claims. As I said at the beginning of my review, it checked off all my boxes, and was an ideal fit. This was perfect for my needs as I was routing it from a wall out in the garage to a work bench, but it's worthy to note that the cable is only 3' long. This may be short depending on where you plan to use it.
Overall it's a great power strip with plenty of surge protection. There are six 180 degree rotating outlets, and two fixed outlets accessible from the front and back faces from 90 degrees. While not perfect, it's more than sufficient for my needs. But what's a review that only points out the good? How would they ever improve? IMO, this power strip would be perfect if it had three additional things:
1. Sliding outlet covers (me using it in the garage, it gets dusty, which can lead to fires).
2. the plug to the wall outlet could be a low profile 360 degree spinner.
3. it could use some USB ports (Quick charge USB-A, USB-C) capable of delivering output of 100W or more.
Of course, if it did have these things, I'm sure the price would be 25% higher too...

2160 Joules to protect from damaging voltage and current spikes.
The Monoprice 8‑Outlet Rotating Surge Protector features eight protected outlets, six of which can rotate 180° for use with bulky power adapters, without blocking adjacent outlets. It is rated for 125 VAC, 15 amps/1800 watts and provides up to 2160 Joules of power protection, with the ability to handle current spikes up to 144,000 amps. One LED indicates that the surge protector is plugged into an outlet with a valid ground connection, while a second LED indicates that surge protection is active. When the latter LED turns off, the protection circuitry has been consumed and the the protector should be replaced. An auto shutoff feature turns the protector off to when the protection has been consumed to prevent damage to your equipment. The switch doubles as a circuit breaker and it has a six foot power cord with a straight connector.

Unlike ordinary surge protector power strips, this surge protector features six outlets that can rotate 180° for use with AC power adapters, ensuring that all outlets are usable, regardless of what is plugged into them.
PROTECT AGAINST TRANSIENT SPIKES
This surge protector features 2160 Joules of surge protection and can handle current spikes up to 144,000 amps. It has 400 volts Line‑Ground, 400 volts Neutral‑Ground, and 330 volts Line‑Neutral clamping voltages, which are the voltage spike levels that will cause the protection circuitry to activate. These are the two lowest voltages specified by Underwriters Laboratories for surge protectors, which provides the greatest amount of protection for your equipment.
KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT IS PROTECTED
The PROTECTED LED illuminates to indicate that surge protection is available. When it turns off, the protection has been consumed and the protector should be replaced. Exactly What I Needed
First Setup: I mounted four of these outlets in troughs built into a large desk in my last home. That way I could easily access them but also run cables into holes on the desk that led to these strips so that my desktop was uncluttered.This time I needed a strip with a straight plug (not flat) to put into a floor outlet that couldn't accommodate flat plugs. This style was virtually the only alternative to some tower power strips that were inappropriate for placement on the floor.Not only does this power outlet totally meet my needs but it was also half the price of the few alternatives. Thank you for offering this quality technology at such a reasonable price.Second setup: I bought a 5 drawer cabinet from Sweetcrispy and converted the top drawer into a tech drawer. I drilled a hole in the back to power surge strip and a hole on each side to make cables accessible to both recliners. I like this setup way better that the first.

As you can see in my picture, I have a number of items with transformers on their cords. Our new bed also has a cord for the adjustable mattress and that was one too many for my previous power strip.
The thing that is most significant about this strip is the orientation of the plugs. Because of the direction these plugs are oriented, it is possible to utilize this strip fully. If you look at my picture, you will see how have used each outlet by rotating them alternately in the opposite direction.
I highly recommend this if you need to plug in numerous transformers.
