Yuka Ando

“I want to feel the texture of the earth more closely,” says Yuka Ando. Known for her soft and modern ceramics, she communicates her most tranquil moments through her work. Drawing creative inspiration from the sunset views of her seaside city, which she translates with a beautiful gradation that makes the boundary between the refined appearance and the transparent space of the matting glaze ambiguous. Ando has studied at California State University, following her love for the English language before returning to Japan to pursue pottery where she learned from Masahiko Ichino at the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramists’ Technical Institute. After the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, she visited Denmark and reaffirmed her purpose and affinity for nature.
