Classic Dano 12 String Sound and Feel

Its iconic jangle is unmistakable. Sporting the classic Shorthorn hollowbody, “S” soundhole and a pair of ’56 Vintage Lipstick pickups, the Danelectro Vintage 12 String captures the look, feel, and tone of the early days of rock. The Vintage 12 String is constructed with a lightweight spruce and hardboard semi-hollowbody that delivers the jangly signature “Dano” sound. In addition, a maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard offers smooth playability, while a fully adjustable bridge lets you set your intonation to your liking. The Danelectro Vintage 12 String flawlessly re-creates the “Dano” sound heard on countless hit records. You simply must experience it for yourself.

That signature jangle

The two single-coil Lipstick pickups in the Vintage 12 String have a one-of-a-kind tone that captured the imagination of so many guitarists over the last six decades. With their coils wrapped around an Alnico VI magnet and then wrapped in tape, these pickups harken back to the vintage tone of rock’s earliest days. The result is a sound that truly stands alone — jangly, with a punchy midrange and a treble kick. And with a 3-way pickup selector plus volume and tone controls for each pickup, you’ll have a lot of options for dialing in your ideal tone for any track.

An iconic American brand

Founded in 1947, Danelectro produced guitar amps throughout the 1940s before expanding into guitars in the ’50s. With their beloved quirky hollowbody designs, hardboard/plywood construction, and Lipstick pickups, the iconic Danelectro designs are instantly recognizable. Among other innovations, Danelectro introduced the baritone guitar in 1956 and the electric sitar in 1967. From guitar gods Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck to Who bassist John Entwhistle (check out the bass solo on “My Generation”) to country superstar Glen Campbell, Tom Petty lead guitarist Mike Campbell, and the ever-eclectic Wilco guitarist and solo artist Nels Cline, Danos have become staples in the guitar and bass arsenals of top artists in all genres. Now Danelectro is back again and better than ever; Sweetwater is proud to offer you this formidable lineup of iconic vintage-inspired instruments.

Danelectro Vintage 12 String Electric Guitar

been gigging since the 70's. this is not my first Dano...I have a few others...but this is my first 12 string electric and I am NOT at all disappointed in how it performed for me. put together a full set of 12 string covers and gigged it and it sounded good...played smooth...felt great in the hands...and stayed in tune on a very damp and cool outdoor gig evening. It looks and feels great like my other Dano's...it plays and sounds like a lipstick Dano should. I really don't care what its made out of or where its made...the fit and finish make it a great guitar to gig with! Sweetwater's commitment to service, support, and delivery remains peerless for all online music gear purchases...Dave and his team are pro's all the way.
Music background: gigging Classic Rock, Blues, Funk, Soul, and Southern covers for well over 5 decades.

VERY NICE

Sweetwater was out of stock so i contacted my rep,Richard Whittingdon..He said there were a couple of demo,s..Told him pick one out.Sent me some pics showing some tiny scratches..Received the guitar and it looks Beautiful!! If there are scratches on it,,they are not noticable in the least ! Guitar was in tune, action was perfect for me,and the intonation was spot on..Thanks for the GREAT setup !! Guitar feels very nice, sounds amazing and is easy to play having 12 strings. I have an acoustic 12 string and this Danelectro is so much easier to play !Very Happy with this purchase!

Outstanding.

I bought this guitar seeking the chime and it has that. Bought a great SKB case at the same time. The instrument arrived and it has a very solid 50's and 60's vibe. The sound, plugged in or not, is just a bunch of fun. The ringing fullness is worth every penny. This guitar provides a lot of great sound.
It is a light guitar with a tad neck dive - it has a lot of hardware up top, so I suggest a wide strap to spread the hold. Will strongly consider a 59DC six string Danelectro, as well. Always Great dependable Sweetwater service.
Music background: Played guitars for fun and friends for 52 years.

Danelectro Vintage 12 String a whole world of possibilities

Danelectro Vintage 12 String is an amazing electric guitar, very easy to play comparing with another 12 strings guitars, with a whole world of possibilities since its classic 60's jangle sound in the bridge pickup ( Beatles, Hollies, ...) or its beautiful acoustic clean sound using neck pickup where open chords sounds great, you can create a lot of different textures, amazing intros or use it on latin music simulating a "Tres Cubano", this guitar is my new secret weapon on music production.

Astonishing -- Get one now!

As an owner of a Rickenbacker 360/12, A Taylor acoustic-electric 12-string, and a TEO 12-string mando-guitar, I feel as though I'm fairly well-qualified to review this guitar. And I'll just launch by saying this is the best playing, most enjoyable 12-string I've ever picked up. Period. The guitar arrived with a very, very good set-up right out of the box. Intonation was good, frets were excellent; the truss rod wanted a tiny tweak, otherwise it was flawless. The lipstick pickups work well and produce a distinclive jangly sound, particularly on the bridge p/u. Nobody will mistake this for a Ric, but it's close enough for government work -- plenty of chime and jangle from the bridge pickup. I absolutely love the sound of it. I won't be using the neck pickup all that much, but it's OK, I suppose...muddier; best suited for strmming rhythm patterns. The constuctio is simple enough and the materials moreso. My only ding on the whole affair is that the volume and tone pots had just zero taper -- they could have been replaced with buttons or a toggle swithc, as they were on or off -- no gradation. So I had tose replaced with some quality pots and now it's wonderful. The playing experience couldn't be better. The neck is sent straight from heaven; it's that good -- fairly wide and flat, easy to strum, finger-pick, do single-note runs...in fact, I can play just about any of my 6-string solos on this thing with ease. The payability is just absolutely amazing. And it's light and well-balanced on the strap, making it a delight to gig with. The guitar stays in tune amazingly well, and is just a breeze to work with. I even adore the pastel colors that the guitar is available in. Mine is aqua, and it looks great and turns heads every time I pick it up in public. So I'll sum it up this way: need an electric 12-string? You've come to the right place. This is without a shadow of a doubt the one to buy.
Music background: Advanced. Have played many years, recorded, toured; now playing club-type gigs.
