Blake Lively Debuted a New Charlotte Tilbury Bronzer at the Met Gala

"I patina’d," the 2022 Met Gala co-chair said about her transforming Statue of Liberty-inspired look.

In our opinion (and probably the opinion of most people on Earth), Blake Lively doesn't show up on nearly enough red carpets. One of the most stylish and stunning celebrities, she always brings Old Hollywood elegance to the awards shows and premieres she attends. But in the case of the 2022 Met Gala, where she's one of the co-chairs with husband Ryan Reynolds, she brought Old New York with her instead and looks as incredible as ever.

Lively arrived on the red carpet in a breathtaking copper Versace gown with intricate crystal details throughout the bodice. But it didn't stay copper for long. In a completely magical moment, a team of assistants removed Lively's dramatic, voluminous, bustle, train, and gloves to reveal a minty green gown and matching gloves. It's a clear tribute to the Statue of Liberty, which has oxidized from copper to green over time — though this is easily the most glamorous take on oxidation we've ever seen.

"I patina'd," Lively told live-stream host LaLa Anthony, calling the dress an "homage to New York City and so many of the classic, iconic buildings," with details borrowed from historic landmarks like Grand Central Station.

Hairstylist Jennifer Yepez worked with the Dyson Supersonic professional edition hair dryer to create Lively's hairstyle, which was a continuation of her ode to Lady Liberty with a bejeweled Lorraine Schwartz crown — with seven spikes like the statue and 25 stones to represent the windows — atop an otherwise simple yet elegant look with the gentlest waves.

The biggest reveal, other than Lively's dress transformation, was her makeup. She's the very first person to wear an as-yet-unreleased new bronzer from Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer on a red carpet. In addition to the upcoming launch (you can get it on May 19), makeup artist Kristopher Buckle also applied Eyes to Mesmerise in Chocolate Bronze, Luxury Palette of Pops in Pillow Talk, and Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara to Lively's eyes. Her lips are a gorgeous combination of Matte Revolution Lipstick in Sexy Sienna and Collagen Lip Bath in Gold.

Although Lively didn't removed her second set of gloves on the red carpet, we're pleased to report her manicure was just as committed to the theme. Nail artist Elle Gerstein shared photos of her masterpiece with Allure

"I used Kiss Gel Fantasy Sculpted in Back it Up for the base of the design," says Gerstein, who then painted the nails with a matte top coat. Next, she used a powdered pigment to create the shades of copper, followed by alcohol ink dropped strategically to create the oxidized effect on the nails. She sealed this with a matte top coat and then took a shiny topcoat to the tip of each nail to create a shiny, chrome tip. “We wanted to create the effect of metal dripping, and so we extended the chrome to underneath the nail for a special surprise.”

The last step was to add Swarovski crystals and caviar beads to create a tile effect.
