Wok -- the name of a deep pan with a bottom of small diameter. The main purpose of the wok is to "stir-fry" -- fast frying with frequent stirring on a hot skillet. But in addition, the wok pan can be used as a vessel for deep frying food in hot oil and for the preparation of various soups. It can also be used as a steamer and even as a smoker. The steel wok is suitable for open fire, and you can even take it with you outside the home and surprise friends with unbelievable Chinese dishes.
- Always remember to season a carbon steel wok! Manuals for doing this can be found on the internet and with the wok, as well.
- Carbon steel kitchenware needs seasoning and maintenance to avoid rusting. Tip: dry and keep wok oiled at all times, especially after washing.
- Washing routine: Wash - Dry - Oil - Fire (where Dry means dry using paper or cloth towels)

The handle is also a bit of an issue. The wood is solid and good but only big enough for one hand and unless you consider yourself fairly strong it’s tough to use one handed (I’m 165lb fairly strong man and I mostly can just shake it and tilt it but serving / dumping with one hand is pretty tough) It also has metal coming up from the wood and this gets very hot … this seems like a genuine flaw. I wrapped aluminum foil around it which stopped it being dangerous but if you use the wok on high heat and touch the metal which is … next to the handle… you’ll get burned.
This also might not be a surprise but it requires care similar to cast iron and once you season it the wok turns black (with some nice purple ish and other colors so it looks nice but not silver)
So it’s well built and does what it’s supposed to well but definitely has some drawbacks to it also. I’d honestly like a lighter one with a different handle design.

Seasoning was simple - there are plenty of resources find the best method, but here’s what I did:
First, I removed the wood handle and used my oven at 425 for 20 minutes, let cool, oiled, repeated four times (picrel after fourth). I made sure to heat the wood a bit each time then wiped with vegetable oil.
I then put it on my stove top, added 1” oil, sautéed (on high heat) a mix of rough chopped garlic, onions, ginger, and lemongrass until the garlic was crispy (not burned) making sure the oil made its way all around the wok. Did this three times.
Cleaning was simple: bamboo brush, water, towel dry, slight heat to ensure all moisture removed, light oil, and store.
As a test I fried a few eggs…best dang eggs I’ve had in a while. Fried rice the next night. No sticking. Excellent flavor every time since.
Definitely recommend. I can see this wok lasting a very, very long time with many good meals to come.
