For Beginners – Start Playing Drums

If you’ve haven’t played drums before, you might think it’ll be too difficult, or that learning on an electronic kit is complicated. The TD-1DMK is a hassle-free drum kit that’s easy to set up and intuitive to use. Just connect the power, switch on and connect either your headphones or monitor speakers. You’re ready to start playing an authentic-sounding collection of drums, with a choice of 15 preset kits, for a realistic and engaging drumming experience. And when it’s time to start working on your drum skills, onboard coach functions and Melodics for V-Drums software let you learn the essentials and quickly start climbing the ladder. It’s easy to move around in your home too, so whether you’re playing solo or want to perform for your friends and family, the TD-1DMK can go wherever you play.

For Parents – Help Develop Your Child’s Sense of Rhythm

When your child learns a musical instrument, they also learn about life. Along with discipline and determination, the sheer enjoyment they’ll get when playing drums is priceless. The TD-1DMK module’s onboard metronome and 10 coach functions show your child how their timing skills are improving as they develop fundamental elements of drumming. The game-like experience of the coaching functions means that every session is fun and engaging. Melodics for V-Drums, a free application for Windows or Mac computers, provides free drum lessons that develop a sense of rhythm without it seeming like work. The TD-1DMK’s pads are quieter than other v-drums too, so your child can practice without limitation.

For Students – Become a Better Drummer

Whether you want to be a drum hero in a band or you just want to develop solid drumming skills, the TD-1DMK helps you get there. The TD-1DMK faithfully responds to the subtle nuances of your playing thanks to the fast processing and authentic acoustic sounds of the TD-1 module. And as you improve, the TD-1 module can keep up with you. The snare and toms can be tension-adjusted and offer stronger stick resistance compared with other mesh heads, giving natural rebound and feel that’s as close as possible to the feel of playing acoustic drum heads. The TD-1DMK is compatible with your choice of kick pedal, including double-kick pedals, while the soft rubber pad absorbs the energy from the beater, for a natural feel, faithful rebound and quieter performance.

If You Used to Play Drums, It’s Time to Come Back

The TD-1DMK can help bring drums back into your life, whether you’re brushing up your skills or picking up where you left off. From onboard songs across a variety of genres, to connecting your smartphone to the module and playing along to your favorite tracks, the TD-1DMK lets you play along with music while you smooth out those rough edges. If those edges are a little too rough, the quiet performance of the TD-1DMK and the option to use headphones lets you immerse yourself in the music without disturbing your family. And as your skills and ambitions grow, you can expand the TD-1DMK by adding an extra crash cymbal or even upgrading the sound module. Give yourself a break – start playing drums again with the TD-1DMK.

The TD-1DMK is great value- $550 + $250 for Tama Cobra Dbl Bass Pedal (You will never need another pedal in your life)However, the picture in the advertisement is misleading and deceptive. The Ad clearly shows three 8" triggers/pads and one 6" trigger/pad. Otherwise this would have been a 5 star purchase.i.e. Trigger/Pads as pictured (see above)8" ="Snare; Tom 1; Tom 26"= Floor TomWith that said, the quality of the kit is outstanding. I played many years ago, but like many of us I gave up the kit for dirty diapers and pacifiers. However, I missed playing. Now that I am responsible adult with a doctorate degree, I can afford any kit I want.I wanted a kit that was small enough for my home office and not OBNOXIOUS like an acoustic kit. This kit fit the bill. Before buying the TD-1DMK, I tried the Alesis and Yamaha base models at the local music store. The Roland triggers and pads are far superior to the leading brands in both sound and feel. Do yourself a favor and spend the few extra dollars for the Roland, you will not regret it. In fact, you will pat yourself on the back in the future if you decide to upgrade your kit.I did upgraded my module with an expanded TD10 module $300. This gave me far more control of my kit than with the TDK1 module-- at a fraction of the cost of a newer model module. In the end, this kit is perfect kit and size for beginners, but the kit is also suitable for playing small venues- even without the TD10 module upgrade.Lastly, the pads can be repurposed and added to any upgraded Roland kit- All Roland pads are cross compatible with all out Roland kits/modules.Good Luck,

Roland is the first name in electronic drums. I have owed many drum kits both acoustic and electronic. I purchased this kit as I will soon be moving into an apartment and can no longer terrify my neighbors with my regular acoustic kit. If you are looking for electronic drums to cut down on the noise, and you are on a budget, this is the kit to get. The mesh pads have the same feel as a regular acoustic drum kit (The solid rubber pads of other electronic kits have too much stick bounce). All the drums are double triggered, which means you can do rim shots and they are also sensitive to how hard you hit the drum. The cymbals are also chockable, so you can silence them with a hand grab. It case you are wondering how Roland can put out a kit for half the price of most of their other sets, they have cut some corners. The actual drums and cymbals are the same quality, as far as I can tell, to their much more expensive kits. Where they have saved money is on the drum brain. It gives you 15 fantastic kit sounds ( hard rock, reggae, jazz, percussion, electronic etc), a metronome and even some included songs to play along with. What you don't get is the ability to tune individual drums to a specific pitch or the ability to input your own sounds, or add additional drums. These were all worthy trades offs to me. I love this kit. I am thrilled with this kit. It is rugged, easily portable and sounds terrific. So are there any negatives? The only negatives is I wish it played a little louder from the headphone jack as you can hear the sound of the sticks hitting the pads and cymbals even at the loudest volume setting with headphones on. There are easy work-arounds for this such as a cheap headphone amp or a more expensive drum monitor. I should also point out that the Tama Iron Cobra double drum pedal pictured in the photo does NOT come with the kit. It is in the photo only to illustrate that the bass drum pad surface is wide enough to accommodate a double pedal which is a huge plus. In closing, this is a fantastic electronic kit with an acoustic kit feel that is an incredible value.

I've owned an acoustic Yamaha drum kit for years and most of that time, it has been sitting in a closet or in the garage. My wife doesn't like me leaving it out as it takes up a lot of space and bugs the neighbors. I looked into a lot of different electric drum sets and most of the other reviews said to just get a Roland kit. So I did. And I do not regret it. I do have to say, on the model I got, the pads aren't as big as some of the other ones I've seen out there, but they are big enough to play on, and they feel amazing! The dual mesh heads are very realistic and are quality items. I do wish the control module had more customizable settings and wasn't as basic, but I'm not recording or doing anything crazy besides just playing on them, so it works. Very happy with my purchase!

I found that that the 6 inch mesh heads were a good idea as opposed to rubber pads, but I found them just too small to play on. I think that the 8 inch mesh heads even make for an easily playable snare and are great for toms too. But for the price of 3 Roland PDX 8's I could buy a whole Donner DED-200 set, which I did and I must say I am really happy with.
The Roland entry level drum module is pretty weak compared to the Roland TD-17, the TD-17 should be the base model and Roland need's to stop shipping rubber drum pads, those things gave me tendonitis. the entry level Roland drum rack is too small to fit the the three tom pads, the larger drum rack included in the Donner DED-200 allowed me to arrange the the three tom's the way I wanted.
The Roland TD-17 KVX series is just about perfect, if it included a larger drum rack, but at close to $2,000.00,it makes hard for an entry level, better to get the Donner DED-200 and build up your kit as you go.
