- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2016I will not bother going through the details of every topic this book addresses. I am a late reviewer and several of the other reviews handle that issue quite well, so there is no need to rehash the table of contents. Instead, I am going to write about what I think makes this book stand out from all the other 101-ish sorts of books out there. And here it is: this book is about Witchcraft, not only Wicca.
In my experience, most of the 101 level books on the market presume the reader is interested in exploring only the Wiccan path. But of course, that is not necessarily so. This book does not make that presumption, and takes the time to explain (albeit at a pretty high level) that there are other choices out there. It does not bash Wicca in the slightest, mind you - it just presents the idea that there are other options.
The other thing that I really like is that there are not a ton of spells in this book - only a few 'starter spells' in the very back of the book (there is another spellbook sold under a separate cover, however, by the same author to complete the 'series'). This is a reasonably thick book, but the focus is on learning the 'what' and 'whys' of things, which is very important at that level. This book does not have a newcomer running around casting spells (that probably would not work) without a proper introduction. And I like that. Witchcraft is not something that should be approached using a Quick Start Guide. It must be respected...and this book accords it the proper amount of respect.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2024Someone recommended this book to me and I am so happy I bought it. I get bored easy and don’t like to read a ton of unnecessary details I just want to get to the point. This book was just that. It has so much useful info and not a lot of unnecessary info. I started reading and finished in 2 days. Definitely get this book if u are just starting out your witchcraft journey
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2023I finished this book in a week. I could have finished it sooner but I made notes & tabs for further reference as my craft develops. This book has great knowledge on all things witchy. Explanation of everything from the history of witchcraft, tools of witchcraft, herbs, crystals, oracles, & much much more. I am new to the whole witchcraft world & this book made me fall in love with the craft & genuinely excited to begin practicing. I would definitely recommend, even if you have a slight curiosity about witchcraft or anything witchy!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2022My interest was recently peaked about witches and witchcraft. I have spent the past five years soul searching and digging deep into my life's purpose when I stumbled upon the idea of witch craft. I had already purchased crystals and love essential oils from working with my chakras and energy body but other than that, I knew nothing about witchcraft or being a witch. But I really felt drawn to the idea so I decided to do some research. This was the first book that resonated with me so I purchased it. I couldn't be happier with my choice. It gave the perfect overview of the major aspects of witchcraft. Simply written so that anyone can understand-- even a complete newbie like me. It has inspired me to continue on this witchcraft journey .
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2023This book (and the others in the series) is what I recommend to people who are asking where to start. This book is plain and simple as well as easy to follow and learn.
1) people who are saying it’s “childish” or “for teens”, no, those people have probably been in the craft long enough to think this. Therefore, they think it’s childish because they are forgetting what it’s like to be brand new in the craft
2) people who are showing their pages being “damaged “…the pages are NOT damaged. They are meant to look and feel like old parchment paper that would be found in old journals. It gives the book an ancient, witchy feel. All the books in this series are like this
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2018This is an eclectic, consensus, Wiccan, new age accumulation of modern magical lore, with a very large grimoire of spells. "The best way to get what you want - especially on days when everything seems to be going wrong - is to bless instead of curse." "By these words, my will, and coin, magic and good fortune join." "This light is presence, this light is power. It fills me until I am presence, and I am power." Yes, it was interesting to wander through this tome of magical modernity.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2025She loved it. Pretty hard cover.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2018I’ve been a witch for as long as I can remember. In my teens and early twenties, more books on witchcraft and Wicca were beginning to be published by things were still limited. Most of what was out there were Wicca 101 books. This book covers the real basics with so much more depth. There are only so many “this is an athame” books one can read. This covers the basics but it’s clearly written by an articulate witch with a solid foundation in understanding the why’s of witchcraft rather than just the how’s. I’ve been feeling disconnected in recent years due to being a mom so I figured I’d grab an intro book to spark that connection again. I figured if nothing else, the book is gorgeous. It feels almost like holding a cloth-covered book and stands out among the crowd of black and purple with a giant pentagram on the cover. I’m happy to say it’s a fantastic book both inside and outside. The author also has a lovely writing voice - it’s both conversational and articulate. Happy reading and blessed be!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This book is absolutely wonderful. It is well written, intelligent, far far away from any ridiculous hocus pocus cliche and is truly enlightening. It gives a lot of information about how witchcraft helps you connect with your inner self and the environment around you. And above all, with nature. You take what you want and leave what you want for the book is not dogmatic at all.
It is not religious or weird, it is truly inspirational and perfect for beginners too. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good overview for beginners
Great book when you are interested in learning more about magick but have no idea where to start or what exactly you should be expecting and how much you will need to invest in.
It helps a lot to understand all the major aspects of witchcraft, but you will need to decide later on on your own path and study more specific books on topics that interest you particularly.
But for beginners it is an excellent source of information. For people who have read a bit on witchcraft but have yet to perform any spell, it is also interesting, to celebrate the different seasons of the witch as well. I'm glad I found this as my first book on witchcraft!
