Bowl Breaks Easily, No Replacement Available

Bowl Breaks Easily, No Replacement Available
Bowl broke on first attempted use. This was not the first immersion blender but this was the first that there was hope on eliminating a food processor from the shelves. Breville support initially answered quickly and requested a code that does not appear on any of the hardware so I photographed everything (see attached) and sent it to Breville support but Breville support went silent, no replies at all.Attempted to purchase the bowl separately as without it the tool cannot perform as a food processor. There are none available. Not sure if Breville does not sell them or not in stock, difficult to get an answer from Breville support.Steer clear of this product and probably any Breville product with similar plastic bowls. Have other Breville products and like them, but none of them are built of mostly plastic like this product is.

Update after owning for 1.5 years: I still like this and use it daily. It slices, shreds, blends and mashes very well. I have started making colloidal oatmeal and the food processor (s-blade) can't do it. I don't know if it lacks the right design or power, but it does not get it nearly fine enough. I have still made soups, hummus, pesto and more in it with no problems. Also, I said you can attach a mixer to the whisker gear and mix batters. After taking to others who have this, I learned my mixer is not standard sized and standard mixers do not fit on this.
Original review: I have owned this for a few weeks, and I have used all of the features at least twice. Each has met or exceeded my expectations. I run a child care center from home, so I bought this to simplify the prep work since I make all of our meals from scratch. It has not disappointed. The first thing I noticed is that all components are well made. Both plastic and steel parts are thick and solid and I'm not concerned about it falling apart. The blades are all VERY sharp, as the instructions caution on almost every page. I set the s-blade down after washing it and my son tried to scoot it over on the counter. He didn't even realize he'd been cut until he saw blood, it's so sharp. The stand that holds it all together for storage is good, but it would be better if it held the whisk. You're supposed to set the whisk on top of everything else, which doesn't keep it in place. Everything else stays in place very well. Some reviewers have talked about the motor overheating, but mine has never even felt warm.

I've had never used an immersion blender before this, so I'm still figuring it out, but I can make smoothies and milkshakes pretty well with this. It creates a better consistency than my full size blender and it allows my kids to customize their smoothie orders, since I can use it, rinse it (unplug first!) and dip it into a new mixing cup. I also made a smooth and creamy broccoli cheese soup with this, and my family loved it.

The food processor replaced several small, manual kitchen gadgets for me. I barely use a knife and board now, since the slicing blade and bowl are so easy to assemble and clean. I've sliced and shredded a wide variety of veggies and all have come out perfect. I realized I love this machine when I got sick and made myself veggie soup (6 different veggies) with about 5 minutes of prep time.

The potato masher works very well for rustic mashed potatoes, which is how I like them. I used the creamy setting just to review it, and I would rate it 7 out of 10 for smoothness.

This whisk whisks just as it should. My favorite thing about it is that the whisk detaches from the spinner, and a mixer can be attached. Breville does not discuss or recommend this in the instructions, but it works. I've been using it for mixing muffin, cake and brownie batters. The lowest setting is still fast, so I'd never use this for anything that needs gentle mixing.

For my budget, this was quite an investment but I have a Breville juicer (which was a gift) so I figured it would be of really good quality. It is, and I'm glad I bought it. I would gift this to friends for weddings or housewarming parties.

I had my mother's hand-me-down, hefty Cuisinart food processor for more years than i care to mention. It still worked, but the thought of fetching this heavy thing from a cabinet was sometimes too much to bear. She also gave me an ancient Braun immersion blender that behaved like a giant magnet on any bowl or pot whenever it came in contact with the bottom. Both were heavy, with limited accessories, and neither will probably ever die.

But i yearned for a lighter processor and when i found this all-in-one device with so much functionality i knew my old devices would be headed out to Goodwill. Sorry mom.

The all-in-one parts sit atop a stand that keeps all the accessories together and easily accessible. Every aspect seems sturdy, though truly only time will tell. The processing bowl's 6 cup capacity large enough for my needs as a simple home cook, the blender motor powerful enough to handle anything i've tried to process. The variety of attachments are meeting all my needs. When using the processor bowl you'l find the feeder in the lid is actually 2 parts that can accommodate both larger and smaller foods. To date, this Breville has easily kneaded pie and pasta dough, riced steamed cauliflower, mashed potatoes, whipped cream, sliced veggies (the designers were clever and added a method to adjust the size of the slices), made sauces velvety and apples saucy, blended smoothies, and aerated eggs for light, fluffy omelets. It even helped me make my grandmother's signature chopped liver. And never once has the immersion blender acted like a giant magnet. Well, maybe a small one.

One size never fits all, but for me the innovation in the plastics, motor and design make for a single excellent appliance that allows me to more easily prepare meals for family and friends.

I bought this because it has a variable speed. I had one like it when I lived in Europe and loved it. When I moved back I couldn't find one like it. I finally broke down and upgraded to this immersion blender. This is light and convenient. I like that it has a stand that houses all of the parts in one place. It has so many parts to it I find myself using it quite often. Here is my take on each of the parts:

    Chopping blade
I like this for a smaller food processor. Sometimes I don't want to get my full size food processor out. This does not chop as evenly as the full size model but it is adequate for day to day.

    Grater and Slicer
These work reasonably well but there is a spring in the mechanism so sometimes the food can slip down out of the shoot and spin between the lid and the blade. I find that if I don't put too much pressure it works the best.

    Ricer
This is great for mashed potatoes! I didn't expect it to work so well but it saves me having to get out my food mill.

    Whisk
This works fine. I use it for whipped cream or to whisk a salad dressing primarily. It isn't sturdy enough for a batter in my opinion.

    Immersion Stick
This works well. The head is oval shaped and bigger than standard but it works fine for me. I like that it is designed so air can move under the blade and it doesn't such down to the bottom of the pan. I use this for soups primarily. I like being able to thicken a soup and add body by pureeing some of it and leaving some of it chunky.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing. Dont know how I lived without one before

Amazing. Dont know how I lived without one before. I have had food processors before but they were hard to use and hard to clean. This is packaged so well on the stand it comes with that it takes up less room than my kitchenaid mixer on the counter. We do small catering jobs and seniors soup kitchen type meals for 50 to 100 at a time and needed something that wasnt a high priced commercial machine but better than the occasional use for a home kitchen. This machine is AMAZING. We can mash potatoes in minutes right in a chafing dish and they are soooooo smooth and creamy. there are lots of power settings and 3 different blade options for more rustic mashed to super creamy for people who have swallowing issues. Very easy to put together and take apart and wash. Been using over a year now and no problems. They do tell you to run it 30 seconds at a time then rest for a 30 seconds and we do that. You can feel that it gets hot in the motor area especially when you are starting to mash potatoes or turnips etc. so we just run it 30 seconds and then pause 30 seconds and within a few minutes we are so pleased with the final product.

I’m in love! I’ve never had a food processor before and I’ll be honest I was covering the full size peel n dice model but I can’t justify spending $1000 and realistically wouldn’t use it to its full capability. Sure; this model is not a perfect replacement (it really would be so nice to have a dice function!! Haha and the julienne and potato wedges... I digress) but for $200 it is a great piece of equipment. Plus it beats eggs, makes smoothies, and mashes which the big peel n dice would not do! Really am very happy with this. As for the people who say the chute is not big enough... sure it’s not giant but it’s not just limited to carrots etc. I’m wondering if those people didn’t notice there are two chute size options? I can slice cabbage in this for my sauerkraut... sure I have to cut it into chunks but to a reasonable size and saves a ton of time over cutting by hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Omg, I love this! What will Breville improve next!
Reviewed in Canada on August 12, 2018

Great function! Stylish, lightweight, quiet, easy to use. No more dragging out heavy and clunky food processor and finding all the bits for it, or have it hog up precious real estate on your counter. Best of all clean-up is a snap! No weird crevices that food gets jammed into. This machine is so well designed and compact storage is a breeze to take all of it, or some, from the cupboard!

I replaced an older basic Black&Decker food processor and a KitchenAid immersion blender with this beautiful, compact device! I love it. The footprint of this stored all together inside my cupboard is less than that of my old food processor base. I had to break down the Bowl, lid & blades and store bits and pieces all over the place. This alone makes it a winner; but it's great function and design will keep you coming back to using this tool over and over again.

All of the parts of this unit have beautiful fit and finish! Very high end materials were used. All seams are smooth. Textured rubber grims feel thick and firm not likely to wear thin.

The handheld motor is very comfortable to hold, nice weight to it, feels very well made. The dial is easy to adjust but kinda clicks in place so you can feel each increment and won't accidentally change speeds or go way too fast easily. With speeds ranging from 0 to 15, gives you more than ample power to blend or chop anything. They do give you strict warnings on how long you should chop some items. When reading it it looks like it won't be enough time, but in practice it was more than enough time. This machine makes incredibly quick work of even the hardest items, i.e. ice potatoes, and carrots are annihilated in a matter of seconds. The on-off button is very responsive and comfortable to use, i.e. no searching for the active button area underneath the rubbery plastic. It also is easy to attach and detach from all of the different accessories. I had no problems getting it off and on, where I had a huge learning curve with my KitchenAid immersion blender, it was always a pain to line up and get just right before it would click on. No issues here.

I haven't tried the immersion blender attachment yet, but it seems very well made and solid. I especially appreciate that it is all stainless steel. My old KitchenAid had a green plastic disc separating the blade from the internal housing. (See 1st pic, the one on the right is my old KitchenAid and the left one is the Breville.) The disc started to come off during use and would jam the blade. I also worried about food getting in there, and not getting it out! Yuck! Does not look like it will be a problem with the Breville. The unit is all stainless steel and well sealed around the blade.

The slicing disc, is super easy to adjust. From paper thin slices to thick cut and everything in between. It says it's 6 levels but really, it's infinite, as it has a dial you just turn to adjust. And the blade is killer sharp. I've tried it on potatoes, carrots and cucumbers. It sliced all of these so thin you could read through them. Made a very tasty carrot salad with these slices, just added the cucumber sugar and vinegar. Not the potatoes! Lol!

The chopping blade made short work of creaming cottage cheese for a light cheesecake I make. Absolutely smooth! And that is no easy feat! Its a chocolate cheesecake so i was always disturbed by white flecks of unbounded cottage cheese. I had tried everything from blenders to food processor and nothing until this got it uniformly smooth! In fact I used it for the whole cake, as it can hold more wet volume because of the design being top motor mount; so no hole in the bottom of the bowl. So it saved me time and dishes as I didn't have to use my stand mixer, etc, as well! I see more cheesecake in my future!

The bowl is one piece with rubber grip on the bottom and the lid has a silicone gasket to seal it tight, nothing escaped and a breeze to clean, rise out right away or throw in the dishwasher. The chopping blade even comes off from the spindle so no food particles can hide. Something else I hated in my old food processor!

I love how clear all the marks and measures were on the bowl, 1-8 cups or 200-1600mls, then liters and fl.oz on the other side. The small food pusher/cup measures from 10-70 ml or 0.5-2.5fl.oz, so I didnt even have to use any of my measuring cups or spoons either!

The greating disc is greeeeeat! Fine or med/coarse! Next will be zucchini carrot cake which will make "great" use of this feature and why I bought my first food processor as I hated the waste and effort of grating 2 cups of each!

I also haven't given the masher or the whisk a whirl yet. I'm intrigued by the masher and once cooler weather starts in the fall I'm sure I'll be using it a lot. As for the whisk, I think this was an after thought ... it has no place on the stand to store it. I'm sure it will be fine, but I have that area already covered by my KitchenAid stand mixer, which I love and various hand wisks.

I only have two small quips about this all-in-one, and that is the storage isn't 100% .... 99.5% but, there is no storage for the wisk, which is why I think it was a nice add-on/after thought, nor a place for the grating disc when using the chopping or slicing disc (it does store inside the bowl.) And there's no cord wrap or I just don't understand how to use the little clip on the cord so I took the cord wrap from my old blender. But all in all this is one of my favorite kitchen appliances! I love it! I would buy it again and again, no regrets! Bon appetit! I'm a happy cook...
