About this item

  • BONDING PRIMER: A high adhesion primer that bonds to a wide range of difficult to adhere to surfaces. It is formulated for situations where a secure bond is critical and use of a traditional water or oil base primer might be questionnable. It increases the possibilities for paintable surfaces.
  • ADVANCED FORMULA: It's advanced styrenated acrylic polymer formula provides a sound anchor for topcoats while reducing or potentially eliminating the need for sanding dense, glossy surfaces. If using as a primer for epoxies, lacquers, products containing xylene or other hot solvents, allow to dry for 24 hours before topcoating and test for compatibility in an inconspicuous area before full coat application.
  • MULTIPLE SURFACES: Use on most interior and exterior surfaces where a secure bond is critical. Bonds to tough-to-paint surfaces including Kynar, PVC, Formica, vinyl, glass, tile, glazed brick, chalky paints, glossy finishes, fiberglass and metals. Topcoat with either water or oil-based paint. For use on interior and exterior surfaces.
  • SUPERIOR COVERAGE: This 1-quart can of KILZ Adhesion high-bonding interior/exterior water-based primer covers approximately 75-100 square feet. Dries to touch within 30 minutes and ready to recoat in an hour.
  • KILZ primers have been trusted by pros for nearly 50 years! Famous for providing high quality primer products that provide solutions to a wide variety of painting problems, KILZ is consistently ranked as one of the most trustworthy brands in the architectural coatings market. Lifetime Limited Warranty (see label for details).

Product Description

A good bonding primer is essential to ensure that topcoats adhere to tough-to-paint surfaces. High adhesion primer increases painting possibilities by bonding to a wide range of surfaces. KILZ Adhesion is a unique latex primer developed to bond securely on slick surfaces where a traditional water or oil-base primer will not adhere. Bonds to tough-to-paint surfaces including Kynar, PVC, Formica, vinyl, glass, tile, glazed brick, chalky paints, glossy finishes, fiberglass and metals. Topcoat with either latex or oil-based paint. Use on most interior and exterior surfaces where a secure bond is critical. This problem solving primer can be used under epoxies, lacquers, and products containing Xylene or other solvents. This is a 1-quart can of KILZ Adhesion High-Bonding Interior/Exterior water-based Primer in white. Covers approximately 300 square feet per gallon. Use on properly prepared surfaces free of dust, grease, chalk, rust and peeling paint. Mix well before using. Apply with brush, roller, or spray. KILZ Adhesion dries to touch within 30 minutes and ready to recoat in an hour. KILZ has been making premium primers and paints for 40 years. KILZ was named Paint Brand of the Year in 2015 in the Harris Poll EquiTrend Rankings.

Time saver for all your painting projects (say goodbye to sanding)!

Time saver for all your painting projects (say goodbye to sanding)!
I ordered this item twice. The first time I brought it upstairs to my room (I was painting my bathroom cabinets) and I set the unopened box on the floor. My dog knocked it over while playing catch and the ENTIRE BUCKET SPILLED all over my CARPET. Luckily I was planning on installing hardwood floors soon so I was more upset about not being able to start my project that day because there was nothing left! Amazon replaced my paint in 3 days. (See first pic).*Tip: even though the lid has those metal clips to hold it shut, it can still open! Be very careful when you handle the paint for the first time!I’ve refinished cabinets before and I HATE painting (mostly because I hate the time and effort it takes to prep the surface). Sanding to remove any finish/wiping down, making sure there’s no dust particles left on the surface, etc. So I was researching how I could refinish my cabinets without spending too much time while also making sure the finish is durable and doesn’t chip. I read all the reviews on this product and decided to give it a go.I still cleaned my surface with a degreaser, but I didn’t do any sanding. The layers go on very very thin. You prob only need about 2 thin coats and that’s it. This isn’t the type of primer that will help with paint coverage, it’s supposed to help with adhesion. After I let it dry (I let mine sit overnight), I did a few scratch tests and decided to move on with the paint (see pics).*Tip: make sure you really shake/mix the primer really really well. I did notice that when I used it for another project and didn’t shake it well, the adhesion wasn’t as strong and it would scratch off.I was really happy with my cabinets and a year later I haven’t had any chipping! For another project, I was helping my sister refinish her bathroom tile (she had a LOT of blue tile and ugly countertop to refinish). I read someone’s review saying they used it on tile so I decided to give it a go. I did try and scuff up the porcelain tile just a bit, then cleaned and dried the surface and put my first coat of primer really thin. It seemed pretty stuck on there with light scratching (I didn’t use a nail or anything). So then I continued my project with the tub & tile refinishing kit. (As seen in the pictures). It’s been two months and again, so far so good! I’ve been careful not to use any abrasive products on the tile or countertops and the epoxy did have more than 72 hours to cure (and I had a heater running during drying times because this was in the winter.I’m excited to try this stuff again on a crib using a sprayer. I do not look forward to having to sand down each and every slat, so I’m crossing my fingers that this also works well for that!If you’ve got a painting project ahead...save TIME and just try it out! You can thank me later ☺️

5.0 out of 5 stars This stuff works great!
Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2022
Having never tackled a DYI project like this, I wasn't sure how I would do, but this stuff works great! It provided excellent coverage over the old brick fireplace that has been in my house for 36 years. I bought a gallon and only used 1/3 of the can with 3 coats. The extra left over will come in handy for other projects. I am very pleased with the final result and so excited that I gave it a try after watching a couple you-tube videos. It is very easy to use with a simple stiff paint brush, getting into the grout spaces first, then working over into the other areas. I did use a small roller brush which helped the project go a bit faster, but, ultimately, you can use a basic brush to do the whole thing.
