It's disappointing to see the reviews from those who abused the stakes and then blame it on the stake. These are ultra-light stakes and have to be treated appropriately. If you do, there's no better stake out there. It's the lightest stake with this big of a diameter out there. That means for it's weight, it has the best holding power. And it's titanium over carbon tube design means it is VERY strong for it's weight. (and that's the key phrase: 'for its weight') I've pounded on it surprisingly hard with a rock without it bending. I'm very impressed.

If that's not what you want, fine, go buy a different stake and wail away with your hammer. But don't blame the stake. It's not designed for what you want to do.

Finally some advice for those who want to treat them right: It VERY difficult to push in a stake with your foot without putting a LOT of bending pressure on it. We also don't have a good sense of how much force we're putting on it. So of course that's going to bend them if you use your foot. Instead, use a rock/hammer and focus on hitting it squarely so there's very little bending force. Get down on your hands and knees and start light and build up from there. Recognize, the harder you hammer, the more likely you're going to hit it off-center and add some bending motion and eventually bend them. If you can't break through without hammering excessively hard, consider moving the stake to a different location. To that end, some people like to connect the stake directly to the tent grommet. That's a mistake because you can't change the stake location and are more committed to pounding through than finding a better spot a few inches away. Instead, add a short segment of line so that you have flexibility to where you can put the stake.

I actually use these for portable folding P3 Solar panels. They fit perfectly thru the grommets, and keep the panels from blowing around. You could use them for most tarps as well if you're staking the tarp to the ground.
    These weigh nothing.
If you're going to get cordage to tie to them, you'll have to get small diameter cordage. Use 1.5 mill cordage.
I would say they are a bit pricey. But they are worth it to me, I count ounces since I hike with a 10 lb weight penalty already with a Solar System to run my CPAP. Plus the fact they are narrower, makes them more useful than a standard stake from Easton or other companies like Tube Stake.
If you're on the fence buy them, but make sure you have cordage to go thru the tie holes, and some reflective cord to tie to that. (I do this will all my tent stakes, you will thank me if you don't)

It's almost shocking how expensive these tents stakes are. I had a gift card and thought I'd give them a try. They are fantastic. They help cut pack weight compared to almost any other traditional stake (e.g., MSR groundhogs) but are still strong and have good holding power. I'd like to add more of these to my kit, but I'll have to wait until I get another gift card!

I live and camp on the prairie. It is not uncommon to have storms with 40 to 80 mph winds. Because of this I use an Alpenlite 2XT tent. It is a relatively light 4 season tent weighing in at 7pounds 7 ounces. A little too heavy for backpacking. After several modifications I have been able to reduce the weight to 6 pounds. The MSR Carbon Core Stakes are big part of that transformation. They are insanely light and very strong. I highly recommend. I have purchased 16 stakes for my tent, again high winds. This summer I camped in a thunderstorm that produced tornados.

I do a lot of backpacking, as I assume anyone does that puts out this much for tent stakes to lighten their pack. I picked these up for a trip to Big Bend NP because the ground is harder and this type stake works best. However these stakes were clearly built to be light, not effective. In just one night I had four of these stakes snap just pounding into the ground. Thankfully I also brought some MSR Groundhogs along to take the place of the ones that broke. I did have one groundhog bend just slightly, but still usable. Won’t waste my money on these stakes again regardless of the ground conditions.

I've tried all other ultralights and these are my favorites. Ultralight gear by nature requires a different mindset, if you understand that you'll get this review. I've used ZPacks carbon stakes, V-shape & Sheppard's hook titanium stakes, even Ti bike spoke stakes weighing 1-2 grams -- but these are my go to stakes now. They are ultralight carbon wrapped with metal giving them the perfect balance between strength and low weight. The red top is easy to see in the ground and securely holds shock cord placed over it (e.g. Hammock pull out). The hole readily fits 1.5mm Dyneema tarp cordage. These won't take a beating with a rock, no ultralight stake will, but does go into ground easily with steady pressure aligned with the stake's length. If you need to break through rock use a classic ultralight trick and make a pre-hole with a Ti spike stake first then insert this stake. On the AT these held a cuben fiber tarp solid during a storm with 40mph sustained winds and 70mph gusts. Treat them right and they will do great.
