"Sturdy, heavy treadmill that is basically an android tablet with a treadmill attached"

"Sturdy, heavy treadmill that is basically an android tablet with a treadmill attached"
Just got this treadmill and it’s basically a 23” android tablet connected to the treadmill. After a few days, its remarkably quiet, and the motors are very powerful (much better than what i had before). I'm still confused by the softness of the running bed - does ON means soft, and OFF means its hard? the manual is unclear about this. Generally the manual has been useless. I was distressed at first that there wasn't a ledge to place my ipad on so that i can watch movies while i run/walk, but the screen tilts! when you tilt it back, there is a ledge area on top of the fan below the screen, that is a pretty good ledge to place the ipad on. Beyond this, couple of nits1. YOU CANNOT TURN THIS THING OFF! :) there is only a master switch, which essentially shuts down the entire unit. There is no standby - if you leave it on, the screen will NEVER turn off! I spent some time looking for a way to put it into standby - nope you can't - even getting into android (more below) doesn't help.2. the treadmill does not run unless you trigger manual mode on the tablet - ie. without the screen, the treadmill is useless. I would expect that i can just press the "start" and run - but nope. you have to hit the manual start on the screen, than the controls will work.3. the Fan is NOISY! not sure the cooling is worth the din it makes :)4. not all the parts assembled flush - yes, i had the free assembly by amazon, who was a nice part-timer who did these assembly after his regular job. he did it quite quickly, but there are some parts that aren't flush - it hasn't bothered me too much yet, but i may have to do some slight disassembly to fix this. Other than cosmetics, it is sturdy, and doesn't creek or move at all - it's a heavy piece of equipment. For people who are adventurous, you can run the web browser to watch youtube, but i haven't been able to do anything else. How to do this? you need to get into “privilege mode” which allows you to access the android shell and settings. Instructions to get into this mode are1. In the ifit app go into settings2. Tap on maintenance3. In the blank space below the maintenance settings, tap rapidly, around 10-20 times4. “Privileged mode” will show up as a message at the bottom of the screen5. Swipe up from the bottom edge and you will see the android taskbar, tap on the circle and you will go to home, now you can access android settingscouple of caveats, I do not know how to turn off this mode. However it seems to be ok, only difference is that the treadmill will boot to android home first, then launch the ifit app, which may be disconcerting to some SO sharing the device. Another caveat, do not try to play with the display settings - as mentioned above, the device does not turn off or go into standby, so when you finish using it, you have to physically turn it off (also says so in the manual, which is mind boggling, it's like unplugging your PC everytime, not sure why they do that - it messes up android in the long run). Thinking i am smart, i went into display power, and turned on, blank after X mins, well, it did go blank, but taping on the screen doesn't wake it up, pressing on the buttons doesn't either - NOTHING will wake it up from blanking the screen - you will have to power cycle with the switch - do don't do it :)Now on to the hard part, it’s running android 7.1.2, so I assume after going into settings and turning on install from other sources, I could sideload an APK. Nope, browser crashes every time when I try to download something from a website. There is no user accessible USB port, or so far Googling has turned up references to hdmi and usb, but no pictures or disassembly guide. If anyone has pictures or knows how to get apps on this thing. please share!

    Style: Commercial 2450 Treadmill (2019 Model)Verified Purchase
Seriously, for years I put off buying a treadmill for so many reasons I lost count, but the big ones were up-front cost, space, and my fear that I'd lose interest in it -- way safer to keep a gym membership with a treadmill there, but have other options too. Enter COVID. LOL

I really tried to adapt and just run/walk/hike on my own, but boredom with this dragged on alongside COVID. I looked at used treadmills to save some $$$ but just wasn't finding anything that suited. My last straw was the free iFit trial I got on my phone, just to see how I liked the style/format---figured it'd be too corny for me and that I'd struggle with virtual training (having tried it before), but turns out I liked it more than I thought I would. Global workouts (some relief for the travel-deprived) + personalities + a huge range of workout options was really working for me.

    OVERVIEW
Have had this thing a few days now and am freakin' in love with it. I doubt I'll lose interest...even if I cancel iFit after the year trial, the freedom and flexibility I've got with this thing to run/walk anytime I'm free without being hindered by weather, time of day, personal safety, is pretty liberating. I'm just mad it took me this long to get off the fence about getting one in the first place.

    MODEL CHOICE
As a lover of hiking, I looked seriously at NT's incline trainer, but between the primo price and the fact that the deck didn't raise, I dropped back to the Commercial 2450. I actually looked at ProForm too to save some dough since it's the same parent company as NT, but was won over by NT's larger screens and more solid consumer reviews (but would probably be just fine with a ProForm, honestly). Anyway, I don't regret not getting the incline trainer...having done the Waipio Valley hike with Johnnie Gale this morning, 15% incline is plenty...and if that's not burning your calves enough, jack up the speed, lol.

    FEATURES
Lots of feature-talk in other reviews so I'll try not to echo too much here...but one complaint by some is that some models were shipped by Amazon without a tray for setting up a tablet in case you want to watch TV or whatnot (since the screen on the trainer won't do that). Mine has the tray, so...wasn't a problem. Fan works fine as a nice cool breeze--thinking of dabbing some essential oil on a cotton ball and taping to the back so I can get some plumeria vibes on the Hawaii training series! LOL! Deck isn't too heavy/hard to raise, but be safe and lift with the legs. The tablet on the trainer has a tilt option, but it's not great, so if you're doing the non-treadmill workouts it can be tough to see. I'd recommend downloading iFit on your phone/tablet and connecting your account there. I haven't noticed any issues between having my account on the trainer and my iPhone. Have had no issues with power/program glitches/freezes/restarts. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

One part I'm still sorting out -- doing manual adjustments to speed/incline in iFit workouts. This is possible, but it does seem buggy sometimes. For example, I'll let the program control the incline, but I might want to adjust speed. If I adjust speed 5-6 times or so, the incline stops auto-adjusting, so I click "follow the trainer" mid-workout as a reset, and start my own adjustments over. This doesn't require stopping the program, and honestly, could be partly user-error. Either way, not a big deal.

    SHIPMENT
Like many, I ordered through Amazon b/c the shipping was better than NT's site, where things were on backorder. Given some reviews, I was a little worried though, about damage during transit/delivery. I had zero issue with this, thankfully. I'm wondering if Amazon changed their shipping strategy to account for this b/c I did notice the date I picked for shipping when I ordered got pushed out a week by Amazon. As I tracked things on their site over the days, I noticed the shipment status was vague for over a week before it shipped, and the delivery date changed twice. No one actually contacted me personally via phone to confirm delivery timing/etc., so I contacted Amazon customer service via their chat function. Their agents had more info than what appeared on the site to me which helped. Once it shipped, the email updates came rolling in as to tracking/delivery status. Since they contract the delivery to another company, it wasn't clear at all how to change the delivery date if I had a conflict, but I'm sure if I contacted customer service again, that could get sorted. All told, I ordered the trainer July 31 with an Aug 5 delivery date, but got it on the 11th. If that was the price to pay for COVID and getting it without being damaged, I'll take it. ;)

    DELIVERY
Maybe it's b/c I live in a single-story home, but the delivery driver took no issue bringing it across the threshold for me. He even helped me orient it so I had an easier time unboxing.

    ASSEMBLY
To be clear, this really is a 2-person job. But I chose to assemble as much as I could solo, then get a friend to help with the rest. Wound up doing the whole thing myself, though I fully appreciate why this isn't the smartest idea, lol. Instructions were pretty clear to me, pieces were neatly organized, and this is one of the few things I've put together where I didn't screw up/misinterpret and have to go back several steps. Bulk aside, I've had worse issues with assembling Ikea shelves, so props to the NT folks on making this clear/easy. And kudos and thanks to those who posted tips in other reviews. Using the box as a sled for getting the deck oriented (I even kept part of the cardboard under the console half of the unit to protect my floor), and assembling in the spot you plan to use it is an absolute must, whether you're assembling yourself or not. This thing has wheels, but wheeling it down the hall to another spot in my home isn't happening. Forget the weight/bulk...based on the direction the wheels are oriented, this thing is too wide for my hallway. I could turn it 90 degrees, but then the wheels are useless so...yes, determine where you want it first, THEN build. Thinking ahead to a situation where you might move residences, one thing I'm considering is taking the entire upper frame off the unit so it can move in 2 pieces (deck + upper frame/console, b/c my main concern would be damaging walls/floors/the unit and especially the console itself). If you don't fully snap in the two plastic pieces that sit over the legs at the base (these plastic pieces are simply cosmetic, and not snapping them in makes zero difference to the look/functionality), you can raise them and access the bolts they cover to unscrew the frame/console...and this absolutely WILL take 2 people...just be sure you disconnect the wire connecting the console to the power supply on the back of the running deck, and safely secure it.

    11/16/2021 UPDATE:
Save your money and spend it on a cheaper treadmill with no tablet so you can invest in the tablet separately. This is garbage, iFIT subscriptions are falling through after the first free year, since they are not that great but for the first time I have seen that the app is holding the entire tablet and treadmill hostage. They will not let you download anything else netflix, amazon prime or youtube on the tablet so you are forced to renew their subscription. Check out Youtube full of horror stories of people trying to find a hack for variety and entertainment but mostly because after spending $2000 on a treadmill you expect it to be yours and not owned by a corporation that twists your arm every time you do not cough up money to renew. iFit trainers are fine but they talk too much, I like my runs to be peaceful with a view of the moving trail but sometimes I want to watch something else so I am not being a couch potato. This is absolutely unacceptable. I regret this purchase and wish that I had invested in a cheaper treadmill with no tablet to buy a separate tablet to watch whatever I so desire on the run. Its shame, I cannot return this entrapment. Save your money, stay away!

    10/1/2020 Update
The Nordic track needs to get it together, the treadmill tablet has gotten bad to worse, it takes 3-5 minutes to boot up and 75-80% of the times shows an error and needs to be restarted. Most of the programs on it have buffering issues, error out, stop working and ruin the run for you. By the time you get it boot up, find something, its already 7 mins in and your mojo to run is dying. I am furious about this since the tablet is the only way to operate it. I MOSTLY do manual runs at this point without running an iFIT program, because it's JUST NOT WORTH THE WASTED TIME to get set up and use iFIT. No one wants to spend 10 minutes getting set up TO RUN- which should be pretty straightforward. Isn't that the whole point of running?
If this is the state within 6 mos of purchase, I am afraid of what to expect down the road, if there is one. Its frustrating and no direct number to reach out to for support. BTW the Bluetooth to connect my (Bose) earphones worked just fine for me until the latest update on the tablet last week. Thanks for nothing!

Pros- I have had this treadmill for a little over a month. The treadmill is sturdy, not as loud- although if you live in apartments, the sound and vibrations will carry based on the construction. The assembly was easy with well-written instructions. The incline and decline work smoothly throughout the workout. The iFit workout library is pretty exhaustive and offers something for all levels in addition to strength and HIIT workouts. Though its hard to see the screen when you are doing the floor exercises. I am glad I got the one with Bluetooth speakers and fans- that helps me go on longer by keeping the body temp down. The feather touch buttons can sometimes be an issue to be clicked twice but it's just something I have to get used to. The tablet size and quality is great - the iFit videos are a pure joy to work with on the high def screen.

Cons: The iFit programs are great when they work- they cause lag in the workout at times and have frozen in between a run where I lost the progress. For the tablet size and treadmill cost, I would have liked a less buggy interface and smoother, quicker operation. I am not sure if I will continue with the subscription after the year is up but definitely the bugginess is an issue for me. I am concerned if the tablet will last me long to operate the treadmill.
The treadmill takes a minute to boot up when you can start running- on multiple occasions the initiation failed and had to be rebooted 2-3 times to get it started.

    Additional must-haves:
    - I would really like to have the ability to project my phone on this tablet or have native apps on the tablet to play Netflix or Hulu. I am wondering if that's being considered as an option. If they can push that feature in the software update, that would be a great value add and great customer experience.

    - I would also love to have some iFit workout videos with just the trail views in different terrains but no audio or commentary over it. this is where I can choose to use the iFit workout and listen to podcasts or music during my run.
