I'm still learning all the tricks and technics to use it properly but oh wow! And how refreshing to have a tool I can dedicate my work to without all the bells and whistles! Or should I say notifications, publicity and other distractions ;-)
This is a perfect electronic paper/folio/filer/scheduler/sketcher... All the paper versions into one sleek eInk device =)
I received my Manta in January 2025. This is my only e-ink device and I waited expressly for the A5 X2 since I felt it would be about the right size device - I believe I made the right choice. I am very happy with how tactile, light and elegant the Manta is. The righting experience is good.
In truth, I am still learning to use some of the feature of the Manta and still finding my feet on organising my notes to increase my productivity.
Overall, I am very happy with the Manta.
Best product at the moment to replace my hand notes. This product may not be for everyone, but if you are exploring the e-ink market. this IS the best product currently out there:
-Perfect size for traveling and can withstand a lot of ‘pain’.
-No subscription service. Hand recognition comes built in.
-Create your own templates. Png, pdf, jpg. (Created my own calendar & weekly checklist)
-Swappable battery and memory. (And I think motherboard too, but hope not to find out.)
-Sideloade is not blocked, but ‘on your own responsibility’
-Half folio: I like thin and light, but I feel you might have gone too far (for my personal choice) as I would like to see more Etsy or Supernote store options for back & front covers. I personally prefer the b/f of the Nomad than the Manta half folio.
-The Penn loop is a bit too small for the HoM2, and it pushes the device up on the right side when the cap is still attached to the pen cap. Again 'too thin’. But with a thinner pen, this is perfect.
-There’s a market place outside for peripheral products. The Lemy Flagstone in NYC is also a great place to try out more pens.
-This is more a wishlist of things I would like to see:
-Native flashcard app.
-Obsidian integration (light version that is better suited for SN hardware)
-SN files that can be shared between colleges/couples. (On same network as an option for speedy updates)
I own an A6X2 Nomad and it has served me well. Its portability and functionality are great. I got the A5X2 Manta for working at my desk and when in meetings. I still use my Nomad when I am out of the office.
The Manta is a joy to use. The extra space gives me what I need and the writing experience is great. The increased resolution allows me to create smaller clearer notes and the I find the surface very enjoyable to use. The shape and cover feel really good in the hand, and it is surprisingly light. If anyone is trying to decide between the Nomad and the Manta, my suggestion is save your pennies and get both!
The supernate has been super helpful with my digital minimalism journey. I wanted a device that would help me read and study without being distracting and this is exactly that. It's nice to be able to jot down my thoughts without having to worry about creating physical clutter. Thanks Ratta!!
