I purchased this a few months ago but only began using it recently as autumn rolled in as a backyard fire pit. I used the Kamoto literally about 3 times in a span of a month and recently noticed that the paint on the upper lip has significantly corroded due to heat and exposed the underlying metal which has begun rusting. You can see the heat damage on the paint exposing the metal underneath. At this point I'm still on board with the Kamoto and the idea of continuing to use it. It's only been a few months and I am well within the 1yr warranty time period so I'll contact Primus and see if I can get this figured out. Maybe there was an issue with the high temperature paint that should have been used? Here's where things spiralled downhill.I emailed the listed contact for warranty issues and was quickly emailed back with a one sentence response saying their warranty doesn't cover that sort of "thing". The "Product Repair Specialist", Tyler, linked me to their warranty page (which I had read prior to contacting them), and I can only assume that he was citing their accidental damage clause in denying the warranty. So I called in hoping to provide context and clearly explain that this wasn't a matter of accidental damage and that a surface that is intentionally designed to be exposed to fire and high temperature shows signs of unusual/accelerated wear. As per Primus's warranty policy:"Primus strives to produce high quality, functional products. Primus provides a Limited One (1) Year Warranty from date of purchase to the original purchaser against manufacturing defects. Though our products are made to last, we feel this is an adequate amount of time for any issues to be revealed."The representative was one of most unprofessional people I've dealt with in some time. He was dead set on declining the warranty regardless of what the Primus warranty claim actually states. Some of this claims included "you caused it to rust" without elaborating and the conversation quickly spiralled into the rep reverting to a sort of primitive circular reasoning you'd expect to have with an upset child rather then the sole point of contact for all warranty claims on Primus products in the US.Based on my experience, there are way too many outstanding outdoor companies out there that offer similar products with exceptional customer service then to bother dealing with Primus for anything given their customer service. In this instance, Primus can do itself more of a favor looking at the service of their employees then looking at the product itself.Save yourself the headache of dealing with the double punch of both a potentially flawed product and garbage tier customer service.

Loved the easy set up and how it contained (for the most part) that ashes from the fire. I had the wood piled up above the rim and everything stayed within the confines of the pit and tray below. Have used it for cooking as well with briquettes and it was excellent. Also cooked some foil packets in the coals and it held everything perfectly.

It is a little hard to clean. But I bought a small flat hand shovel for scooping the ashes into a metal bucket I have for transporting away.

Overall love this fire pit and how it works.

I have been doing a lot of research on fire pits and the main reason I ended up returning this is one simple fact.

Regardless of the grade of metal you have building these, it will warp.

And since this device folds into itself, which is a really cool/fast setup mechanism, it means that it has pretty tight tolerance for the "outside" and the "inside" part of the folding structure.

Eventually, depending on your use, this pit wont be able to fold up again due to either half of it warping and becoming too small to fit into the other.

Watch some videos on this, see if you can find any multi-year users of it who arent just paid promoters/influencers.
(at the time of writing this, it didnt come out that long ago as a product so there werent many people discussing this that literally didnt just buy it or even NOT use it all before reviewing)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and functional. High quality. Works perfectly

I am very please with this. I took a long time researching what kind of portable firepit to buy to take along camping and I think I've made the best choice.
It's been designed really well. I love how flat it lays, it makes slotting it into the car or roofbox very convenient.
The quality is undoubtedly exceptional. I expected that with Primus. The lazer etching of their logo on each side makes it look very desirable.
It stands very well. Really safe and secure.
I've only used it as a BBQ so far as what I didn't research is how many UK campsites have some kind of fear of fires and firepits. But hey have a BBQ. Anyway, I digress, it works brilliantly as a barbecue. With a huge amount of space on the grill and no problem with heat, it was big enough for my family of six.
I reckon it will be even better as an actual firepit. It's great to have the versatility though.
The base does an excellent job at keeping it level and safe whilst catching all the spent ash and any stray embers. (I still take a fire blanket and place that under for extra safety) It also makes it easy to clean up afterwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars
Reviewed in Japan on December 9, 2024
