Hard to find picture rail molding
5 Stars
Hard to find picture rail molding
Not everyone knows that molding placed inches below the ceiling is designed for hooks to hold art. Plaster walls are not made for100 years of people nailing holes in them. Thats why these houses often have/had this special molding. The picture rail molding in my 100+ year old bungalow was removed, I could see where it once was, and I was determined to replace it. However, not only could I not find it in any typical store that carries molding, most people didn't even know what it was. When I found this I was thrilled and ordered enough for one room.In addition to the molding I also purchased wood glue, painters caulk, and moldong hooks. I already had a miter box and hand saw, tape, and paint for the new trim and wall touch-up. The moulding arrived in a reasonable time, packaged in a very sturdy tube. After watching numerous videos, I figured out how to cut inner and outer 45 degree corners. The wood is lightweight enough to cut easily, and glue on the wall. You don't want anything too heavy on old plaster walls. I painted mine white, which was ideal as any inconsistencies between my cuts, and old wavy walls could be easily masked with white painters caulk. I made sure to use a lot of glue, which I not only applied to the boards, but I also poured a little extra behind it after caulking (otherwise it drips.)I could not be more thrilled with the results, and have since ordered enough for two more rooms. No more nailing holes in plaster and I can move my art around easily. Also, it really gives the walls a nice finished look!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent method of hanging art
Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2023
I can't believe they don't sell this everywhere. We saw it for the first time in a historical home in Hyde Park, NY. You can use this molding to hang framed art or (as we did in the photo) mirrors. There are two tremendous advantages: 1) You don't have to deface your walls to hang something very heavy and adjust its position. The sliding attachments allow you to move the arrangement around until you're satisfied. Try doing that with hammer and wall hooks! 2) You can easily change out framed photos to showcase different pieces as the seasons pass. Oldest child ticks you off? Take her graduation portrait down and put up a landscape until she apologizes.
