This is a first time user btw
I am a first time purchaser. This is more of a first impressions and me trying to set it up for use review. I plan on trying it out tomorrow and intend on using it for a week or two to see how I like it/ease of use. There was no security sticker or seal on the box so I'm not sure if that's normal or not as I am a first time user. Also, the little hole on the lid not sure if that's designed on purpose, there is something underneath where that is but again: first time user.I bought this for a trip where I anticipate us to be outside walking for lengthy amounts of time and unsure of if there will be water fountains there or if people drink tap water in that state. So I wanted to try it before this trip to at least set it up and get familiar with cleaning/care.I rinsed out the filter as instructed but as I didn't intend to use it tonight I decided to let it air dry in this container.Under the cleaning instructions step 2 says to, "blow air through the mouthpiece (backwash) into the filter until all the water trapped in the filter is removed."I blew into the mouth piece as instructed, but it felt like not much air was going through. Water did trickle out a little.I was trying to blow with all my strength so I REALLY don't know how much force I need to blow with to backwash. The illustration makes it seem like it shouldn't be that difficult. I wonder if I am going to huff and puff like that every time I need to clean this. D:So right now I am having everything stand up in that container in my picture on top of a slightly crumpled, dry paper towel to drain the excess liquid and after a few hours I will check and dry it off. Blowing did nothing significant. it was still pretty wet, hence the paper towel drainage system. The instructions for long term storage say to, "dry the cap, the lid, and the filter."If it proves difficult or tedious to always huff and puff to clean I may need to figure out another filter system. But if it didn't seem like I was going to turn red in the face just to backwash then I wouldn't be so concerned with the daily cleaning procedures.I am using this with a camelbak Podium big chill 25oz bottle. When I received this and read the box I was was concerned because online the infographic said Podium chill and didn't specify an oz size but on the box it said Podium chill 21oz. Glad it fit! And glad there is a cover for the mouth piece.Other concerns related to huffing and puffing: if it takes that much force to blow air into the mouthpiece to clean it will I be able to squeeze the water into my mouth? What if I were using a non squeezable bottle? Will I be able to drink out of this comfortably?I'll find out tomorrow lolUpdateIts like taking small controlled sips. I can't or shouldn't chug water so that is ok but getting to the bottom or my bottle is hard because the filter doesn't hit the bottom and tilting up doesn't help so i just drank the last two inches or so from the bottle. Again, using a 25oz Camelbak Podium big chill, bot the current 21oz(?) Podium bottles.Extremely hard for me to use, but I also put mu mouth all over it because instructions and I had to figure out if I could actually drink from it. Warranty looks like it won't be of use in this situation so I will use it for the trip and never use it again.I tried to do this two days in a row and it just feels so tedious when I have to use full force to blow into the filter and still had to dry it on paper towels over night. To do that daily? I will do so on the trip and take a paper towel roll with me or a dedicated quick dry towel for the filter to rest on each night but as much as I hate using one time use bottles I may just buy water everywhere.

This product does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it very well. Used it on a 6 night backpacking trip in the Sierras. Used it every day. The more I used it, the happier I was with it. Over 30 years of backpacking experience and this was by far the easiest way to get clean water down my throat ever. So nice to have technology give us a happy, easy bottle of water. The photo shows the Lifestraw featured in the San Jose Museum of Technology. Seeing that display after my trip was the cherry on top. This product is real, good and, if anything, under praised.

5.0 out of 5 stars I will never travel without it!
Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2018
I bought this before a trip to Mexico because I had been told that the water was not safe to drink. I figured that this would probably pay for itself once you add up all of the bottled water I would need to buy, and it will last a lot longer for future trips. After this trip, I will never travel without this filter again! So easy to fill up in places I would have NEVER considered with a normal water bottle — public bathrooms, sketchy hotels, dirty public water fountains, etc. It comes with two different lids which both fit bottles that I own, but I use it mostly with my big kleen kanteen since it holds the most water. I have also taken it along on a few hikes, and even filled up from a river just to see if it worked— it did :) It is a little tough to suck water through the filter during the first few uses, but it gets easier the more you use it. Oh, and I didn’t get sick at all on my trip despite many risky water situations, so 5 stars very much deserved!
