Our Place Expands Its Internet-Famous Product Line
Beloved kitchen brand Our Place released a new line of prep ware today, inviting customers to—in its words—“say goodbye to sloppy slices.” The launch includes four new products, a walnut cutting board ($95), and three German steel knives (starting at $40 and available as a set) designed to give home cooks everything they need to succeed in meal making.
And, like everything that comes from the mind behind Our Place, specifically founder Shiza Shahid, the new products focus on the details—from a thoughtfully designed grip to make knife handling easier to a convenient juice trench on the cutting boards—that aim to make cooking enjoyable for the novice chef.
“Whenever we set out to make a product, we always ask: Will this make home cooking easier and more joyful?” Shiza says. “That's why we make highly streamlined, functional, thoughtful, beautiful products that actually make you want to cook—you'll never see Our Place coming out with an avocado slicer or a lemon zester!”
The fact that you can match the knives to the colors of your Always Pan was an equally inspired idea for a customer base that loves to photograph stovetop creations. It's that kind of understanding of the customer base, as well as Shiza's own experiences with cookware, that led the brand to spend over a year developing the new products.
“We set out to solve all the problems home cooks face,” Shiza explains. “When I first started learning to cook, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of knives on the market—other kitchenware brands were selling 12-piece-knife sets that are completely unnecessary. So we optimized a set of the three knives that give you everything you need for all your meal prep needs and nothing extra.”
For shoppers on a budget, and with limited storage space, less-is-more is definitely a welcome approach.
