An introduction to Paxos Villa

How would you describe Paxos Villa in a nutshell?

Paxos Villa is laid back and lovely. It is the perfect perfect house for that perfect summer holiday. Chic interiors, breathtaking vistas and unforgettable sunsets. Walk through olive groves down to the stunning beach and its crystal clear water.

What’s your background and what was your inspiration behind Paxos Villa?

I’d been to Paxos as a child and it stuck in my head as the perfect summer holiday. I never found anywhere comparable. When we stumbled across the house, which was a ruin at the time, it was love at first sight.

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of the villa?

It’s a simplistic, contemporary approach to a traditional greek stone house. It mixes traditional Paxiot architecture with easy luxury. The house is designed so you are always connected to the outside, the views and the smells of the garden.

To you personally, what is so special about the villa?

Watching the colours change on the cliffs in the evening with something cooking in the outside kitchen. A warm breeze. It’s like a spell, there is no place like it.

Please tell us about the food.

You have some really excellent restaurants ranging from classical Greek tavernas to beach bars serving exquisite Italian food. Down the road is Erimitis bar and restaurant which has one of the most spectacularly beautiful views in the Mediterranean.

If you want to cook, the outside kitchen is ideal for long warm evenings with family and friends. You can buy locally caught fish from the main square, the local supermarket has all the basics and in Giaos you can find just about anything else.

Is the villa best suited for couples, families, groups? What’s your policy on kids?

The villa is ideal for a couple, group of friends, or a family with older children. The olive grove has steep drops and old stone walls so its not really suitable for children under eight years old.

The property is registered under the Greek registration number 1145765

The great thing about Paxos is you don't need a huge amount. The housekeeper will cook fresh fish if you ask, you can have a massage or yoga lesson. But really you should get out and discover the coastline. Paxos is all about the water.

The villa has a 16m long swimming pool with dramatic views, outdoor kitchen and lounge area — perfect for barefoot living surrounded by beautiful gardens of fragrant herbs.

An ancient donkey path leads from the house down the hill, through olive groves to the beach below — one of Greece's most beautiful. The walk takes about 12 minutes down.

Outside, the garden is full of Mediterranean herbs and flowers and has orange, lemon, almond, lime, pomegranate and fig trees. It boasts a large outside kitchen with BBQ, pizza oven, gas cooker, fridge and a large outside dining table with space for eight.

The pool area has single and double sun-beds and an outdoor shower.

Things to do in Paxos

  • Yoga classes
  • Hiking
  • Scuba diving
  • Sailing / Kayaking
  • Boat trips
  • Fishing

One of the best things to do on Paxos is to rent a motorboat and discover the cost from the sea. Explore the caves and cliffs of the West coast before finding a deserted cove to call your own, or head over to Anti-Paxos and the incredible Caribbean-like beach of Voutoumi.

Lazy days are well spent in the beautiful turquoise water of Paxos's many bays. Or discovering local restaurants serving both traditional Greek food and the most delicious Italian cuisine.

Paxos has three main towns. Gaïos is the island’s attractive capital, a Venetian harbour, a ruined fortress and red-tiled buildings of pink, cream and yellow stucco. Guarding the mouth of the natural harbour of Gaïos are two islands. Gaïos Square is a very good place to sit at a cafe bar, soak up the atmosphere and watch the coming and going of a great variety of boats and travellers.

Lakka, at the northern tip of the island, is Paxos’ second port. It is set in a gorgeous horseshoe-shaped bay and flanked by the high ground covered in olive and cypress trees. The bay, which is almost completely sheltered from the open sea, is excellent for swimming, water sports and for mooring boats.

Loggos is the smallest of the three main villages. It is a very quiet fishing village with a picturesque harbour fronted by tavernas and small bars. It’s a great place to peacefully laze by day, or drink and dine by night.

The location of Paxos Villa

The tiny Greek island of Paxos is heaven. Endless olive groves, tiny coves and dramatic cliffs. Paxos is only accessible by sea so has remained incredibly unspoiled. It has white pebble beaches shaded with olive trees with some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean. It’s the perfect spot for an utterly chilled summer holiday.

The villa is in the quiet hamlet of Boikatika with a bar and restaurant. The next village, a couple of minutes’ drive, has a supermarket, bakery, wine bar and some traditional tavernas. The beach below the villa is spectacular, it a 12 minute walk down through forest and olive groves.

The views are of donkey paths winding downwards through the ancient olive groves towards the open sea. The sunsets here are unforgettable and the sunset bar at Erimitis is only a short walk away in case you wanted to join the view with a cocktail!

To get to the villa you need to fly to Corfu and then take a hydrofoil or sea taxi (licensed to 10 people maximum per boat), the journey time is 1hr. Corfu port is only about 10 mins in a taxi from the airport. And the house is about a ten minute drive from the port in Paxos.

When is the best time to visit Paxos?

Spring for wild flowers and walks, summer for hot days and balmy nights or early autumn for empty beaches and warm seas.
