Why We Like The Garmin inReach Mini 2
The inReach Mini 2 gives us the same compact communication means as its predecessor but now with loads more battery life and features. Rather than lasting hours, it lasts days, letting us use it for much more than just check-ins on our multi-day missions. With the new ability to sync with Garmin Explorer, we can plan our course on the computer screen and save it to this palm-sized device. As we venture well beyond cell coverage, the new electronic compass gives us an accurate heading as we stand still, while the addition of Galileo gives us a quicker and more precise satellite lock, even with some tree cover. If we get turned around, the addition of TracBack routing helps us find our way.

Peace of mind, but 1 concern...
When this works, it's amazing!! I have one concern- I used this on the Salkantay Trail in Peru during the rainy season, when there were mudslides. My concern is there were times when we reached basecamp and GPS would not work due to cloud cover. Without much experience with the device, it was concerning to know whether an update was sent to recipients tracking my progress or not.

Loved the old inreach
Generation 1 inreach was great. Texting from 25000 feet was easy. I could text ahead to family and friends. Text ahead to drivers. Now it’s all way too closed. Can’t figure out how to text from Garmin pilot to someone’s cell without use both downloading the app. Used to be great. Now it’s not. But I do love the usb-c upgrade. Nice add.

Short battery life
I yet have to figure out how to operate it. Somehow it wants me to send email messages which is not useful for me. Battery lasts only about a day. I thought I could take it on multi day trips without charging. It also charges very slowly

It works
So far it’s worked. It was a bit confusing for the subscription. You need the Garmin app on your cell phone to use the device and purchase the subscription through the app.

Big technology in a small package.
I bought this Mini 2 for my wife and I as a way to communicate with family while on camping trips where we have no cell phone service. Our first trip was camping in Palo Duro Canyon in Texas. The Mini 2 worked great, and we were able to keep in touch with family members. It also gave us confidence that if we had a medical emergency we could get help if needed.

Facilitated My Rescue!
Bought the InReach Mini before my section hike through the Sonoran Desert on the AZT. On day 4 of the hike, I slipped on loose rock and tore my hamstring. I was four miles from the trailhead in a remote area without cell service and could not walk. I pressed the SOS button. Within 45 minutes, Garmen had the Sheriff's Department's Search & Rescue helicopter there. Garmen communicated with me and the Search & Rescue Team throughout the entire process. Incredible device and even more incredible people!

Awesome device
I love this little device, it’s super easy to use. I’ve had no problems with connecting it to my iPhone. The explorer app and messenger app work great. I haven’t had issues with battery life but I feel like it could be a little bit better at times. The cost of the subscription is a little pricey but you’re paying for peace of mind so I get it.

Garmin Inreach Mini
Honestly I haven’t been out on a road trip but it’s all set up and provides us with a lot of comfort knowing we can text or hit SOS in case of an emergency when there is no cell service which is many remote areas when camping !
