I (30) purchased this game for my boyfriend (28) for Christmas. I was looking for something for us to just relax and veg on the couch and play and it didn't disappoint. The puzzles and boss fights are engaging without providing too much of a challenge. Would be a great game for a parent and a young child.

I originally owned the Wii U version and while it controls a little better than the Switch version there is still so much fun to be had in this version especially with the DLC. Honestly the graphics are just a little bit sharper in the Switch version. The game is so expertly crafted and has the joy of some of my favorite titles set in the Mushroom Kingdom that it is a great title to have on the Switch. It often delights at literally every turn of the cube you are trying to navigate. With fun added challenges in each stage it represents yet again what makes Nintendo the game company it is.

Arguably, when you do look at the Nintendo Wii U over its lifeline, there are just not many games that have honestly been memorable. The only few examples that showed were barely noticed, but got better lifelines on the Nintendo Switch. That arguably has been the case with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe & Hyrule Warriors. But that same thing honestly could be said about some of the niche Wii U titles the console had. That arguably was said about Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker in many cases. The game received massive critical acclaim for being a niche puzzle-box adventure title, but because of the lagged sales of the Wii U, the game was barely noticed. That could still be said with the Switch release, but truthfully, it is a pure delight with the console, as I finally got to play the game 5 years after it came out.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Nintendo Switch is actually a pure guilty pleasure delight, as you play as Captain Toad trying to recover as many gems & stars as possible in many various garden & puzzle-box worlds, while trying to recure Toadette from the clutches of Wingo. The game is more complex than meets the eye as you over 70 different worlds, but it isn't just about Point A to Point B at times. It really is about using your noodle to navigate in these puzzle worlds. The game is also in the best way how you play it as well depending on the console setup, but that is in the overall scheme of the game.

As you navigate the over 70+ puzzle-box playgrounds as Captain Toad, you'll also encounter obstacles like bosses like a dragon that can spit fire at you, as well as the traditional Mario foes enemies like the goombas, hammer brothers & cheep cheeps that can actually cause you bodily harm. For that in the game, it is about accuracy & smart control as you maintain & collect turnips to throw at your opponents, but it is just about that because the more stars & gems you collect, the more you progress in the game. The courses each are similar to what you saw Captain Toad play in if you're mastered Super Mario 3D World, but thankfully don't push you based on a timer, which allows you to openly think more with the worlds you're playing in.

The graphics in the game absolutely look great & feel good to play in each of the puzzle-box levels, while the control is very easy to maintain, as you think throughout each of the levels. Yet, there are some faults with playing Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker with the Switch. The game is more built from the controls similarly to what was with the Wii U console, so playing with the game connected to the TV is more of a problem, unless you're using the 2 joy-cons as your controls to move around the game, with trying to tap the worlds & collect the games to move Toad around. That also is said with the Switch Pro Controller, because that is more of a problem in trying to navigate the worlds. The best way to play the game is just playing with the Switch in the handheld mode, because you have the best in the control as you master Toad in the game. Also, there are a few worlds that were abruptly removed from Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on the Switch version & instead replaced them with worlds that are more celebratory around Super Mario Odyssey with levels similarly to the kingdoms from the game like New Donk City & The Cascade Kingdom, which is sad because it would've been nice to the Super Mario 3D levels from the Wii U original in this game, just for the sake of fun in the end. The extra DLC content in this purchase could've also included the Wii U levels not included with the Switch version of the game, but the near 20 extra levels with the DLC are actually quite fun to play.

When it does come down to it, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Nintendo Switch is still a delightful game to play. It is fun & incorporates. The game is definitely a single-player delight that seems more unsung rather than a must-have for anyone that likes puzzle games. While it still hasn't the heights of sales in the way games like Luigi's Mansion 3 & The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild have for the Switch, it still is a game I absolute recommend in the very end of the day. It truly is a game worth unboxing your mind & challenging you to the core with delight & charm.

My 11 year was very disappointed after he spent all his money on this game and extra feature. He solved it in one day and couldn’t even use the extra digital content bc it requires virtual reality goggle which he doesn’t own. There’s no way to return or get money back. Very sad. Don’t waste your money.
