- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2022Style: Not for macOSVerified PurchaseThis is the second time that I buy a type c/display port to HDMI 2. The first one was
ULT-WIIQ-US 6.6ft, DP 1.4a to HDMI 2.1. Unfortunately, this cable had audio issues, it stutters every 30 seconds and after 4 days it stopped working on 4k 120hz RGB. I researched a lot on these adapters and I found out that my RTX 2070 support type c video out display port alt mode, so I searched these adapters too. It seems that many of these adapters suffers from overheating, signal loss when switching in and out of HDR. Also, some of them require USB power. It seems the most of these adapters use the same chipset, but, it is the firmware that cause these issues. Then I saw that Cable Matters provide firmware update for some of the display port/type c to HDMI 2.1 that mention many bugs fixes related to issues that I mentioned. I decided to buy the short adapter and buy a hdmi 2.1 cable instead of the cable type, as the adapter is more expensive than the cable and it reduce the chance for it to stop working properly. The longer the cable is, there is a higher chance for failure. As soon I got it I download the latest firmware update from Cable Matters website and saw that the cable is on older firmware, so I update it . It takes very short time, and it works without issues. I can send HDR signal without losing signal, the audio does not have any issues and as I wrote in the title, it works on 4k 120 Hz 12 bit RGB. I will update the review if the adapter will fail.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2024Style: Not for macOSVerified PurchaseI've tried all sorts of cables and docks and adapters but have been unable to get 120hz over the HDMI cable. This adapter finally works! I actually have it hooked up to a usb-c port on my dock, so I still have a single connection to the MBA M3, and it works fine in this configuration.
The only annoying thing is you have to flash the adapter for this to work like that. And more annoying - flashing the adapter requires a windows PC. If this is not a burden to you (you have a windows PC handy that can display video over its usb-c port), then this one time price will make this work flawlessly with your MBA M3 (I haven't tried earlier models).

5.0 out of 5 stars Provides stable, reliable 8k@30Hz connection from USB-C to display with HDMI port
Style: Not for macOSVerified PurchaseThis adapter provides a stable, reliable 8k@30Hz connection from a USB-C port with support for Display Port Alt Mode to a display with an 8k-capable HDMI port.
I'm using this adapter to connect an NVidia GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU to a Samsung QN800A TV at 8k. The GPU is accessible via a USB-C port with DP Alt Mode, while the TV supports HDMI 2.1. I'm using a fibre optic HDMI cable, but a certified copper cable would work too.
I've tried multiple brands of USB-C to HDMI adapters and cables, and this is the only one I've used that provides a perfectly stable 8k connection all day long. The 30Hz refresh rate is sufficient for most productivity work, but some things, like working with video, may require 60Hz.
In addition to this product, I have a Sabrent DA-UCH8, which provides 8k@60Hz using DSC. However, the Sabrent gets very hot and glitches from time to time, causing the display to briefly show either distorted colours or a black screen. The errors last less than a second, but in a normal day of use, it typically happens a few times. As a result, I am using this Cable Matters adapter primarily, with the Sabrent as an alternative when I want 60Hz.
I'm hoping that Cable Matters will eventually offer an adapter with DSC support that can transmit 8k@60Hz, but until such an adapter exists, this one is great for 8x@30Hz.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2022Style: Not for macOSVerified PurchaseThis allows me to get a native 4k 120hz output with full RGB 10 bit from my 2080 Super to my CX OLED. Way better image quality than running 60hz with 10/12 bit 420. I wasn't able to get G-Sync working at all, so I'm not sure how some other reviews have that working.
My only big issue with this device is that it seems have to some random issues with blanking out the display a few times and then letting it recover. If I had to guess this is a firmware issue. It never happens while actually playing games or anything. It just happens randomly when on the desktop sometimes and when the PC is waking up from sleep sometimes. It's annoying when it happens but not a deal breaker.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2023Style: Not for macOSVerified PurchaseIt's not often that I feel compelled to write reviews, but the performance of the C2 monitor has truly blown me away. Originally, I purchased this monitor for gaming but had an additional need for coding. My tool of choice for this is usually a Mac - an M1 Max to be precise, which unfortunately does not come with HDMI 2.1 support. This meant that upon connecting it to the stunning 42-inch C2 monitor, I was limited to 4k at 60 Hz.
A thorough internet search led me to the Cable Matters adapter, touted as the solution to unlock 120 Hz. Although I was skeptical, the prospect was too tempting to resist. Upon receipt, I adhered strictly to the instructions I found online: I flashed the specific firmware using a Parallels virtual machine on my Mac and installed their firmware software from the Microsoft Store.
What happened next can only be described as a mini miracle. By connecting the C2 monitor to my M1 Max Mac using an HDMI 2.1 cable and this adapter, the 120 Hz option suddenly appeared in my Mac display settings. To say I was thrilled would be an understatement! AND, this is not 4:2:2, it's RGB 10 bit 120hz!!! This is AMAZING!!!
Best of all, there was no need to download additional software such as BetterDisplay. It was as simple as plug and play. I was able to achieve 120 Hz and elevate my visual experience to new heights! This product truly is amazing and well worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Endlich wurde mein HDMI Flackern Problem am NUC 13 Pro gelöst!

4.0 out of 5 stars No VRR compatible.

5.0 out of 5 stars RX6800XT <-> 77" OLED
Style: Not for macOSVerified PurchaseI have the AMD RX6800 XT graphics card in my computer, it has one HDMI output, two DisplayPort and one USB-C.
The HDMI was already taken by another monitor I use, so I ended up opting for USB-C -> HDMI to be able to share screen to my TV. Cheap adapters kept limiting my connection. One gave me only 24Hz, very "laggy" picture. Another would top out at 30. A third wouldn't even let me reach 4k.
Then I decided to go for the recognized Cable Matters, and just out of the box I can turn up all settings without any issues.
Thanks for a reliable device!
Extra bonus star for the fact that firmware updates are available even after buying the product. That's was beyond expected.
6/5!
