Artist bios

Pennsylvania combo Superheaven play sludgy, grunge-inspired melodies coated in the textures of classic shoegaze. Originally known as Daylight, they issued a series of indie EPs before making their full-length debut with 2013's Jar. Following their name change, they offered up sophomore set Ours Is Chrome in 2015, then went on a lengthy hiatus. Despite occasional reunion concerts, Superheaven remained larely inactive for nearly a decade. After returning to the studio in 2024, they released their eponymous third album a year later.

Formed in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 2007, Daylight modeled its heavy sound after '90s grunge, '80s D.I.Y. punk, and a smattering of early emo/post-hardcore bands like Quicksand. A core lineup of Taylor Madison (vocals, guitar), Jake Clarke (vocals, guitar), Joe Kane (bass), and John Bowes (drums). Their early recorded output consisted mostly of EPs, with a demo issued in 2008, followed by the Sinking EP in 2009. Amid tours of the U.S., Europe, and Australia, Daylight continued to focus on EPs, releasing Dispirit in 2010 and The Difference in Good and Bad Dreams in 2012. Around this time, Bowes was replaced on drums by Zack Robbins, who joined the group just in time for their first proper full-length, Jar. Released in 2013, Jar was produced by Will Yip and sounded like the heavier side of grunge acts like Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, and early Smashing Pumpkins, complete with angsty breakdowns and creepy vocal harmonies. It was also a chart success, reaching the upper half of the Billboard 200 and number three on the Heatseekers chart.

A legal challenge from a Spanish band also called Daylight prompted them to change their name to Superheaven in 2014, though their sound remained the same. They promptly reissued Jar under the new band name, then inked a deal with Los Angeles indie Side One Dummy which released their follow-up album, 2015's Ours is Chrome. Like their debut, the album fared well on multiple U.S. charts, but after touring in support of it, Superheaven entered a hiatus that would last for years.

While members pursued other projects, the band reunited for a handful of charity shows in the late 2010s and early 2020s, though no new music was forthcoming. Finally, in 2024, it was announced that Superheaven had joined the roster of Blue Grape Music, and they issued a pair of singles, "Long Gone" and "Numb to What Is Real." These were later included on the band's self-titled third album, released in April 2025. ~ TiVo Staff
