Artist bios

A genre-bending artist who began making music in her early teens, Lauren Auder transforms sounds as diverse as rap, ambient, electronic, and classical into baroque pop songs filled with Christian and mythical imagery. After introducing her eclectic sound on a series of EPs beginning with 2018's Who Carry's You, Auder made her full-length debut with the even more mercurial and theatrical the infinite spine in 2023.

Born in 1998 in London, Auder was raised in the South of France by her music journalist mother and father. Immersed in music from a young age, she absorbed everything from classic '70s rock to emo and rap as a child. Once she hit her teens, Auder played in some alt-rock bands and struck out on her own a few years later, collaborating with artists including slowthai, Oklou, and Jeshi on moody, atmospheric songs that they posted online. Auder's music earned praise from the likes of Denzel Himself and Kojey Radical, who appeared on the 2015 EP Equus. The following year, Auder moved to London and continued to refine her music, ultimately signing with True Panther. In April 2018, the label released her official debut EP, Who Carry's You, which featured production by DVIANCE as well as the influence of composer Maurice Duruflé.

Citing Scott Walker as a heavy influence, Auder delivered the follow-up, two caves in, in early 2020. Later that year, she teamed up with Caroline Polachek for a cover of Virginia Astley's "Some Small Hope." Early 2021's 5 Songs for the Dysphoric EP included a cinematic duet with R&B singer Celeste. With her sound growing only more intricate, diverse, and exploratory, Auder released her full-length debut, the infinite spine, on True Panther in July 2023. ~ Heather Phares & Marcy Donelson
