Artist bios

John Talabot and Velmondo produce warm, organic, and occasionally haunting downtempo house as Mioclono. Working together since 2016, the duo released their debut LP, Cluster I, on Talabot's Hivern Discs in 2023.

Oriol Riverola (aka John Talabot) and Arnau Obiols (Velmondo) began recording together at Barcelona's Angel Sound Studios in late 2016, along with engineer Miquel Mestres. The pair named their project Mioclono, the Spanish word for myoclonus (involuntary muscle jerks or twitches), as both artists had been diagnosed with epilepsy. The two over-dubbed additional material onto the original recordings, and reconvened for sessions at the end of each year. A track titled "Center of Things" appeared on Hivern Discs' Fragments compilation in 2020. The project's debut album, Cluster I, was issued in 2023, containing the material originating from the initial session, mixed and mastered by Gordon Pohl. ~ Paul Simpson

A producer and DJ of mostly low-key house music designed for private and public settings, John Talabot (born Oriol Riverola in Spain) surfaced in 2006 under the names Oriol D.a.r.y.l. and just D.a.r.y.l. The first John Talabot 12", the three-track My Old School, was released in April 2009 on Germany's Permanent Vacation label. Two months later, a second 12", "Sunshine," was released on the producer's own Hivern Discs. Additional well-regarded singles followed on those two labels, as well as on Young Turks, throughout 2010 and 2011, while Talabot remixes for the likes of Tahiti 80 and Teengirl Fantasy piled up. Debut album ƒIN, including a handful of vocal tracks courtesy of Pional and Ekhi, appeared in February 2012 on Permanent Vacation. A special edition of the album added remixes from Bullion and Pachanga Boys, among others. Talabot mixed a volume of !K7's long-running DJ-Kicks series, released in November 2013. The mix included "Sideral," the first track produced by Talabot and Swedish producer Axel Boman under the name Talaboman. It was issued as a single in 2014, co-released by Hivern and Boman's Studio Barnhus. Talabot released the single "Without You" (!K7) in 2015, followed by "Voices" (Permanent Vacation) in 2016. In 2017, his debut full-length, The Night Land, was released by R&S. ~ Andy Kellman
